Diamond Princess Deck-by-Deck Guide: Cabins, Venues, and Navigation

Learn Diamond Princess by the places you will walk between most often: your cabin, dinner, the theater, and your favorite pool.

The most useful trick is knowing when to change decks, especially for the aft International Dining Room and the separate forward and aft facilities on Deck 15.

Short version

Use Deck 7 for the main evening walkthrough and the aft route down to International on 6. Pools and buffet are on 14; Lotus Spa and gym are forward on 15, while Izumi and youth facilities are aft on 15.

Use Deck 7 to learn the ship on your first afternoon

Walk Promenade Deck 7 from the forward theater area to aft Club Fusion when you first board. It gives you a useful sequence of evening destinations without repeatedly going up and down in elevators.

Wheelhouse is forward of the central atrium, Crooners is beside the atrium, and Explorers Lounge is farther aft. Continue toward the stern for Makoto Ocean, Sabatini’s, and Club Fusion, then locate the aft elevators before you leave.

That last elevator bank will be useful for dinner in International on Deck 6 and for trips toward the aft buffet or Izumi. Finding it while you have time is easier than discovering the route five minutes before a reservation.

Compare this walkthrough with the official deck plans selected for your departure date. Diamond skips numbered Deck 13, so the jump from Aloha 12 to Lido 14 is one physical deck rather than two.

Diamond Princess, Coastal Sailaway

Gala Deck 4 for the facilities you may need briefly

Keep Gala Deck 4 in mind for the medical center and the lower ship access arrangements. You are unlikely to use it as a leisure destination, but knowing its position avoids searching the upper public decks if you need medical assistance.

Follow the crew’s directions for the gangway on each port day rather than assuming disembarkation always uses the same door. The port, dock height, and whether the ship is using tenders affect the route.

Before going ashore, agree on a meeting place and note the all-aboard time independently of your tour’s advertised return time. A route you used yesterday may not be the one serving the next port.

For someone using a mobility aid, ask about that day’s exit and return arrangements before joining a crowded line. A deck-plan symbol helps with planning, but the crew can explain the access in use at the current port.

Plaza Deck 5 for the atrium and Crown Grill

Go to the Grand Plaza on Deck 5 when you want the lower atrium, a drink at Good Spirits, or a pause near the library. This is also a useful place to orient yourself around the panoramic elevators.

Crown Grill occupies the former Savoy dining-room space here, beside Vivaldi. Choose the correct restaurant when reading your dinner confirmation: Crown Grill is a paid specialty venue, while Vivaldi remains part of the included main dining choices.

The current Diamond dining update is the reason older maps and photographs may still show Savoy. Use the current reservation name when asking a crew member for directions.

Plaza also has forward oceanview and inside accommodation, so it is not exclusively a public floor. If you are considering those cabins, compare their route to the atrium with their individual location and view rather than assuming all Deck 5 rooms are equivalent.

Diamond Princess, Atrium

Fiesta Deck 6 requires the biggest navigation adjustment

Use the forward part of Fiesta for the lower level of Princess Theater and the casino area. Guest Services and the central shops are farther along, with Pacific Moon and Santa Fe beyond the central atrium.

International Dining Room is at the aft end, but it is separated from those central Deck 6 areas. You cannot reach it by simply continuing through the other dining rooms.

From the atrium or forward theater, go up to Deck 7, walk aft, then take the aft elevators or stairs down to Deck 6. If you are arriving from an upper deck, use the aft elevator bank directly.

Practice that route before your first International dinner if anyone in your group prefers a slower pace. Our Diamond dining guide helps you pair the correct route with the meal you have chosen.

Promenade Deck 7 for a full evening without changing floors

Build an easy evening around Deck 7 if your group wants dinner, music, and entertainment with less elevator use. Makoto Ocean and Sabatini’s are in the aft half, Explorers has smaller scheduled events, and the forward theater provides the larger shows.

Check the daily program for the venue and start time before walking over. A lounge can host different events across the day, and a familiar name does not mean your preferred entertainment is always taking place there.

Use the outside promenade for fresh air when conditions allow, taking note of doors and any stairs before planning a continuous circuit. The forward upper section reaches onto Emerald Deck 8, so the walking route needs more thought for someone avoiding steps.

Choose an indoor route if the deck is wet, windy, or temporarily closed. The ship overview is useful for identifying the venues, while the crew and daily notices determine access aboard.

Emerald Deck 8 for cabins with specific view tradeoffs

Choose an Emerald room deliberately if an obstructed oceanview or aft mini-suite offers an attractive fare. Lifeboats and their equipment run alongside much of the deck, so individual room notes matter more than the general promise of a window.

The aft mini-suites sit above the Promenade public spaces, including the Club Fusion area. That can be convenient for evening entertainment, but an early sleeper should compare a room with accommodation beneath it on Dolphin.

Emerald also has aft Premium Balcony and Vista Suite options with individual support-beam warnings. Do not assume a higher category automatically produces the same clear view as an unflagged room on another deck.

Our Diamond cabin cautions give the specific numbers and alternatives. Use them alongside your sailing’s selected map before accepting a discounted location.

Diamond Princess, Stateroom

Dolphin Deck 9 for mini-suites and the linked family rooms

Start on Dolphin when comparing mini-suites, particularly if a sitting area and tub matter more than a simple balcony. Reserve Collection mini-suites occupy the central section, with ordinary mini-suite options in other areas.

Check the berth count for the particular room before booking children or an extra adult into it. Similar-looking rooms do not all have the same approved capacity or the same additional beds.

The family-suite arrangements D104 with D100 and D105 with D101 are at the forward end. Each linked combination accommodates up to six, and both rooms must be booked together.

That position is worth weighing against motion sensitivity and the longer trip to the aft youth facilities. For your own everyday route, decide whether being near the central elevators would be more useful than the larger family arrangement.

Caribe Deck 10 and Baja Deck 11 for central cabin choices

Compare Caribe and Baja first if you want accommodation above and below much of your cabin area. They are useful starting points for light sleepers who want some separation from the pool deck and evening venues.

Caribe offers several suite types, balcony grades, and inside rooms, including the aft C748 and C753 Premium Balconies. Baja offers central BA balcony accommodation and the large aft Grand and Owner’s Suites.

Use the room record to compare sizes and obstructions rather than giving one deck a blanket upgrade label. Caribe C400 is a central Penthouse Suite, while C402 is an inside cabin only a short distance away.

Locate the laundry and elevator banks before choosing a number, particularly if corridor activity bothers you. Our Diamond room recommendations explain which of these locations best fits your priorities.

Diamond Princess, Pool Deck

Aloha Deck 12 for cabins and the aft Terrace Pool

Go aft on Aloha to find Terrace Pool, which offers a different setting from the main pools on Lido. It is a useful alternative when you want a stern view or a break from the central pool area.

Aloha cabins sit directly beneath Lido because there is no numbered Deck 13. Some have Lido accommodation overhead, while others are beneath the pools or buffet, so trace the particular room before booking it for an early bedtime.

An aft Aloha room can make the pool and buffet convenient, but convenience is a separate issue from overhead activity. Baja often gives you a similar fore-and-aft location with cabins above.

If you enjoy changing pool areas during the day, learn the aft stairs connecting this part of the ship with the higher decks. If steps are difficult, locate the appropriate elevator route before setting up for the afternoon.

Lido Deck 14 for swimming and flexible food

Use Lido as your main pool-and-lunch floor. Neptune’s Reef is the more open central pool area, with Prego pizza and Trident Grill nearby, while Calypso farther aft has the covered Conservatory setting above it.

Horizon Court occupies much of the aft section, with Churrascaria at the aft starboard side and the terrace behind. Choose this end for flexible buffet meals and a shorter route from an aft cabin.

There are also cabins forward on Lido, so a Deck 14 room is not automatically beside the buffet or over the pool. Consider its forward position and the venues below before paying extra for immediate pool access.

For families, agree on one poolside meeting point and lunch counter before everyone disperses. You will spend less time searching for each other across the two pools and buffet seating areas.

Sun Deck 15 has two very different ends

Use the forward elevators for the Lotus Spa, fitness center, and forward Lotus pool area. Use the aft elevators for Izumi and the youth facilities at the opposite end of Deck 15.

Izumi is not simply another room beside the forward spa. If you have booked both a treatment and a bath, leave time to travel between the ends of the ship rather than scheduling them back to back.

The Izumi bath guidance confirms reservations, a fee, and the minimum age of 18. Check the particular session’s clothing rules before arriving, since the requirements differ outside Japan.

Bring children to the youth facilities at the agreed registration or collection time, then confirm the best route back to your room. Parents booking forward accommodation should allow for the walk rather than assuming the club is close to the forward fitness facilities.

Diamond Princess, Onboard Activity

Sports Deck 16 and the upper aft venues

Head forward on Deck 16 for The Sanctuary, a paid adult retreat to ask about early if a reserved relaxation space matters to you. It is separate from simply choosing a free poolside chair.

The Princess Links area is farther back, while The Oasis and its hot tubs are aft. Choose an outdoor activity when the conditions suit it, and use the indoor lounges when heat, rain, or wind would make the session uncomfortable.

Higher aft, Center Court and Skywalkers give you sports and nightlife destinations beyond the central pool deck. Confirm the access route if you use a wheelchair or scooter, especially for the forward upper decks rather than assuming every outdoor area has the same elevator access.

Plan those trips around something you actually want to do there instead of touring every upper deck at the busiest time. Our Diamond activity choices help you decide which stops are worth including in your day.

How this guide was researched

Room comparisons follow Diamond’s cabin details and deck plan, including individual beam obstructions and linked-family beds. Princess dining menus, package terms, youth guidance and Izumi rules supply the relevant costs and access conditions.
