Carnival Sunshine Deck-by-Deck Guide: Dining Routes, Pools and Cabin Decks
Remember three Sunshine levels first: Deck 5 for the indoor evening route, Deck 7 for a balanced room location, and Deck 9 for pools and upper dining.
Then learn the split above them: spa and Serenity forward, youth spaces and WaterWorks aft, with separate sports platforms higher up.
Short version
Cross the ship on Deck 5, use the aft bank for Sunrise, and explore JiJi/Cucina/Havana aft on Deck 9. Use the forward bank for spa and Serenity and the aft bank for the youth spaces, WaterWorks, and sports platforms.
Learn Deck 5 before your first dinner
Learn the Deck 5 evening route and the separate Deck 9 dining cluster before dinner on Carnival Sunshine. Use the forward and aft banks according to the venue you want, rather than riding up in the middle and starting a long walk.
Think of Deck 5 as the indoor evening spine, Decks 6 through 8 as the residential middle, and Deck 9 as Lido plus the aft dining cluster. Above that, forward and aft recreation areas need different approaches.
The official Carnival Sunshine deck plan shows the numbered floors and room footprints together. For a sleep-focused cabin, you should check both the ceiling and floor, then weigh connecting doors, nearby service spaces, and the route to the elevator bank you will actually use.
The ship is also just under 900 feet long, so it is noticeably easier to cross than the newest Excel-class vessels. You still save time by learning the correct elevator bank, but a wrong-end mistake is annoying rather than a full cardio session.

Deck 1: lower cabins for a motion-conscious shortlist
Deck 1 is mostly lower accommodation and is the first place you should look for someone who gets motion sick easily. A lower cabin closer to the middle generally feels less pitching than a high room toward the bow.
The obvious downside is that nearly every casual-food and pool day pulls you upward to Deck 9 and above. If your family intends to bounce between the room and WaterWorks all afternoon, you may prefer to stay several decks higher.
Deck 2: another sensible lower cabin deck, especially for port-heavy trips
Deck 2 keeps the same low-and-steady logic while moving you a little closer to the dining and entertainment floors. Ocean-view cabins here can be a very good value if you want natural light but do not care about paying for a balcony high on the ship.
Check Deck 3 above before selecting the exact room: its forward cabins, dining rooms, and galley create different ceilings. For early nights, you should favor another cabin overhead over a working galley, without treating a carpeted restaurant as a guarantee of silence.
Deck 3: forward cabins, Sunshine Atrium, Sunset, and Sunrise
Deck 3 has a forward cabin section, then Carnival Adventures, Guest Services, and Sunshine Atrium with its bar around the forward elevator group. Sunset Dining Room occupies the middle, while Sunrise Dining Room is aft beyond the galley.
The galley interrupts the interior route between restaurants. For Sunrise, cross on Deck 5 to the aft bank and descend to the assigned Deck 3 or 4 entrance, rather than arriving at Sunset and trying to walk through the working kitchen.
The forward Deck 3 cabins sit below Liquid Lounge on Deck 4. For an early bedtime, compare a room away from that lounge boundary rather than assuming every low cabin has accommodation above.
Deck 4: Liquid Lounge, specialty dining, and Limelight
Liquid Lounge is forward on Deck 4, with Pixels Gallery and the Photo Studio around the atrium. Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, The Library Bar, Piano Bar 88, and Bonsai Sushi are in the central public section; Limelight Lounge and upper Sunrise Dining Room lie aft.
For dinner followed by a show, the endpoints matter: Sunrise aft and Liquid Lounge forward are on different sides of the ship’s main public geography. Walk the indoor Deck 5 route between the aft and forward banks, then use the appropriate entrance on Deck 4.

Deck 5: Ocean Plaza makes this Sunshine’s real evening highway
Deck 5 begins with upper Liquid Lounge, shops, and the Sunshine Atrium overlook. SkyBox Sports Bar, Cherry On Top, The Warehouse arcade, and Sunshine Casino lead toward JavaBlue Café and Shake Spot, with Ocean Plaza, RedFrog Pub, and Alchemy Bar farther aft.
Ocean Plaza is the meeting point you should choose for the aft half of the indoor entertainment route. The deck continues into a genuine aft cabin section beyond Alchemy and the aft bank, so it is not public nightlife all the way to the stern.
Use Deck 5 to cross between the forward and aft banks after dark, then drop to the actual venue deck. Comedy at Limelight is on Deck 4, so it should not be lumped into the Deck 5 bar circuit as though every stop shares one floor.
Deck 6: great for night owls, more complicated for light sleepers
Deck 6 begins the main residential middle and puts you only one floor above much of the nightlife. That is excellent if you stay up late and want to walk downstairs for Alchemy, RedFrog, comedy, or the casino.
On Deck 6, use the Deck 5 venue below as the deciding detail. For a light sleeper with similar fares available, Deck 7 adds a residential layer while leaving the nightlife only one extra flight away.
If Deck 7 costs the same, usually move up. One extra flight keeps the entire evening zone just as convenient while adding a residential layer between the room and the party.
Deck 7: the Sunshine cabin deck to choose first
Deck 7 is the easiest starting recommendation because most cabins have other cabins above and below. Deck 5 is only two floors down, while Lido on Deck 9 is two floors up, so stairs replace elevators for a huge part of the day.
Midship is the most balanced location for motion and average walking distance. Forward works better for theater and upper Serenity access, while aft can shorten the route toward the buffet, aft outdoor areas, and several upper restaurants.
Deck 8: the pool-family deck, with one important ceiling question
Deck 8 is one flight below Lido, which makes it wonderfully convenient for families. Breakfast, pizza, pool time, Guy’s, BlueIguana, and the main outdoor spaces are all a short stair climb away.
The catch is exactly what sits on Deck 9 above your room. Cabins under quieter forward areas can be fine, while rooms below buffet service, pool furniture, bars, or busy outdoor circulation may hear chairs and cleaning before or after normal passenger hours.
Choose Deck 7 for the simpler sleep-focused location; keep Deck 8 when the repeated room-to-pool shortcut earns the extra attention to its ceiling.

Deck 9: Lido is where Sunshine feels most familiar
Deck 9 is the main pool-and-casual-food level, with the central pool, Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, bars, buffet access, pizza, deli, and other quick options. Most guests will come up here every day even if they swear they are not pool people.
Forward Lido cabins have a residential corridor separated from much of the central pool traffic. They suit frequent breakfast and pool trips, with a high-forward motion tradeoff.
Continue all the way aft on Deck 9 for Cucina del Capitano, JiJi Asian Kitchen, and Havana Bar, rather than searching on Deck 10. These are separate dining venues with their own service periods and charges where applicable, not a promise that another buffet line is always open.
Deck 10: Cloud 9 Spa forward, youth clubs and WaterWorks aft
Cloud 9 Spa, the Fitness Center, thermal suites, and salon sit forward on Deck 10 among the designated spa accommodation. The central outdoor section overlooks the Lido Pool, while Camp Ocean, Circle C, and Club O2 are together near the aft bank before WaterWorks.
For a family staying on Deck 8 aft, take the aft bank to Deck 9 for breakfast and to Deck 10 for youth handoff and slides. For a spa appointment, use the forward bank instead; the two activities are at opposite ends.
Only pay more for Cloud 9 Spa accommodation benefits if you plan to use them. Treatment charges, access eligibility, and the exact category still matter, and Sunshine’s thermal suites should not be confused with a thalassotherapy pool on a different ship.
Deck 11: Serenity pool forward, SportSquare aft
Deck 11 forward includes spa accommodation and the lower Serenity terrace with its pool and waterfall feature. The separate aft section is SportSquare, with the sports court, SkyTrack, and ropes-course structure.
Choose the aft approach for active family time and the forward approach for adult lounging. A shared deck number does not mean the two sections connect through a level indoor corridor.
Deck 12: forward cabins and Serenity, aft SkyGreens
Deck 12 forward adds another small spa-accommodation section and Serenity seating behind it. SkyGreens mini golf is on the separate aft section, above the sports area.
Upper spa accommodation is convenient for thermal visits and Serenity, but outdoor furniture and circulation can be nearby too. Keep the upper location for the facilities you will use rather than an assumption of extra quiet.
Deck 14: the top Serenity tier
There is no passenger Deck 13; Deck 14 is the high forward Serenity tier with its bar and whirlpool. Serenity is included for guests 21 and older across this three-level retreat.
Try more than one Serenity tier before settling into a seat, because wind, shade, and the surrounding pool activity can change the most comfortable spot. Included adult access gives you an alternative, rather than promising every seat has the same atmosphere.

The upper-deck route to learn once
Use the forward bank for Cloud 9 Spa on Deck 10 and the forward Serenity sections above it; use the aft bank for the Deck 10 youth clubs and WaterWorks. SportSquare on Deck 11 aft and SkyGreens on Deck 12 aft belong to that same rear activity neighborhood.
If you need step-free access, arrange the exact Serenity tier or recreation destination with Guest Access Services before committing to a cabin for proximity. Separate platforms, exterior passages, and attraction structures deserve more care than a quick glance at an elevator symbol.
Forward, midship, or aft on Carnival Sunshine
Forward makes the most sense for Liquid Lounge, Cloud 9 Spa, and the Serenity retreat. Aft becomes useful for upper dining, buffet routes, and some of the quieter alternatives away from the main pool flow.
Midship is the general starting point because it reduces motion and balances both ends. On a ship Sunshine’s size, a central Deck 7 room can make almost every repeated destination feel manageable.
If someone in the cabin is motion-sensitive, move lower and stay close to center. If everybody handles motion well, you should let the two venues you expect to use most decide which end wins.
Choose the deck for your daily routine
Best overall: Deck 7 midship or near a useful elevator bank.
Best for pool-focused families: Deck 8 after checking exactly what sits on Deck 9 above.
Best for light sleepers: Deck 7 rather than Deck 6 or an exposed Deck 8 location.
Best for motion sensitivity: lower-midship on Deck 1 or 2.
Best for adult outdoor time: a central cabin with an easy forward route to Serenity rather than paying solely to sleep high.
Best for Lido convenience: a forward Deck 9 cabin if high-forward motion does not bother you.
How to learn Sunshine on embarkation day
Start at Sunshine Atrium on Deck 3, locate Liquid Lounge forward on Deck 4, then walk Deck 5 through the casino to Ocean Plaza. After that, visit Deck 9 for Lido Marketplace and the aft JiJi/Cucina/Havana group, then Deck 10 aft for the youth clubs and WaterWorks.
Finish by exploring the Serenity tiers and noting the most comfortable one for the weather. That short tour makes the forward adult area and separate aft family area much easier to remember.

Keep planning Carnival Sunshine
Use the best cabin guide for category priorities and the cabin cautions for neighboring public spaces. Bring the exact room number back to this plan before booking.
The Sunshine dining guide separates the aft upper lunch options from the lower main-room dinner route. Those repeated destinations should shape the bank you use most.
How this guide was researched
We used Carnival’s Sunshine plan to trace the Sunrise and galley route, Deck 9 dining cluster and forward-spa versus aft-family split. Accessible destinations need their own route arrangements.
