Queen Elizabeth Tips, Secrets and Things to Know Before You Sail

Before a Queen Elizabeth cruise, settle your dinner arrangement, check the exact cabin surroundings, and use My Cunard to reserve the extras you actually want.

Once aboard, try the included tea, games, breakfast delivery, and sea-view rooms before paying to fill every gap in the day.

Short version: Britannia already offers open dining, My Voyage works without buying internet, and self-service laundry and room-service breakfast are included. Check the dress calendar, current service charges, and exact departure; both pools are open-air, and Grills dining is in the private midships complex on Deck 11.

Choose the dining benefit you want

Britannia guests dine in the Britannia Restaurant. Depending on the fare and availability, the reservation can involve early, late, or flexible arrangements.

Britannia Club guests use the smaller Britannia Club restaurant with a dedicated table and flexible meal access. Princess Grill and Queens Grill each have a dedicated restaurant on Deck 11.

A cabin upgrade can change the restaurant as much as the room. Compare Club for its dedicated table and additional dishes, while remembering that ordinary Britannia already offers open dining as well as fixed seating.

Princess Grill adds suite space and private Grills areas. Queens Grill adds larger suite formats, butler service, and the most personalized dining.

Confirm the dining arrangement on the booking confirmation rather than waiting until embarkation. Requests can be adjusted onboard only when capacity permits.

For food intolerances or special diets, contact Cunard at booking and follow the dining guidance, which asks for at least ten weeks’ notice. Repeat important needs with the team aboard and ask direct questions at casual counters about ingredients and cross-contact.

Queen Elizabeth : Harbor Arrival

Check the room before chasing a higher deck

Deck 7 is a useful first comparison for an Inside, Balcony, or suite because accommodation decks surround it. Deck 6 also has residential Deck 5 below, so it should not be rejected as though the theater and ballroom were one floor down.

Deck 8 is convenient for the pools and spa yet sits directly beneath Deck 9 activity.

If motion is the main concern, begin with a lower central position and compare its exact surroundings. Forward rooms feel more pitching, especially the forward-facing Deck 6 Oceanviews and forward suites.

Aft balconies and the large aft suites can experience vibration during maneuvering. Low Deck 1 or 4 rooms reduce motion but add distance from the upper leisure decks.

Use our Queen Elizabeth cabin cautions to read the symbols for metal-fronted, shaded, partially obstructed, connecting, accessible, and extra-berth rooms. A balcony name cannot replace the exact room’s view and layout.

Queen Elizabeth : Atrium

Use My Cunard before embarkation

My Cunard is the pre-cruise planning center for voyage details, Gala themes, reservations, and purchases made available for the booking. Complete passenger information, check arrival instructions, review shore experiences, and note which activities are requests rather than confirmed reservations.

Save essential documents before travel in case terminal mobile service is poor. Onboard, My Voyage access is complimentary through the ship network, while public internet needs the applicable plan or included benefit.

Check the final boarding document for your terminal and arrival time, and plan the transfer for that departure city. Deployment changes, so an old Queen Elizabeth port guide should not decide your hotel or flight connection.

Pack for Smart Attire and Gala Evenings

Check the packing guidance and the Gala calendar before leaving home. Smart evenings generally use collared shirts and trousers or similarly polished outfits, with jackets optional; Gala evenings call for more formal clothing in the participating venues.

The theme is optional inspiration, not a costume requirement.

Bring shoes that work on polished indoor floors and the exterior Promenade. Alaska requires layered rain and wind protection, while Caribbean sailings need sun protection and light clothing.

In both regions, the air-conditioned Royal Court Theatre and dining rooms can feel cool.

If you want a casual evening, learn the accepted alternative venues and their hours. Keep at least one polished outfit available if you want the freedom to use the main restaurant and other smart evening rooms.

Budget beyond the fare

Add the hotel service charge before dividing the remaining money among excursions and treats. The current amount is $18 per person per day for Britannia and Club, or $19 for Princess and Queens Grill, unless the charge is covered by your booking.

For two people on seven nights, that means $252 or $266 respectively. Beverage purchases add an 18% service charge, so compare the final cost or package terms rather than only the printed drink price.

Keep a separate allowance for paid dining, spa, internet, photos, shopping, and casino play. Choose the items your party will use, then compare current standalone or bundled offers in My Cunard without assuming a package is automatically cheaper for your habits.

The onboard account uses U.S. dollars, so check how your payment card handles that currency. Watch the account during the voyage and ask about a questionable charge while there is time to resolve it, rather than waiting for the final morning.

Queen Elizabeth : Casual Dining

Make dinner fit the evening

Britannia diners should arrive according to the assigned arrangement and speak to the dining team early if a seating problem is important. The restaurant spans the aft ends of Decks 2 and 3, so the aft elevators are the efficient route.

Leaving the Royal Court Theatre at the same time as many diners creates cross-ship traffic.

Britannia Club, Princess Grill, and Queens Grill guests benefit from dedicated tables and longer access windows in their assigned rooms. That flexibility is most useful when returning from a late port or scheduling a show.

It does not eliminate peak demand entirely, especially on Gala Evenings.

Lido Restaurant on Deck 9 is the casual fallback for early excursion mornings or an informal meal. Our Queen Elizabeth dining guide explains the included food, paid alternatives, and room-service differences so your backup plan does not create a surprise bill.

Choose Steakhouse at The Verandah for its menu and occasion, then read the complete cover and supplements before reserving. A leisurely specialty evening works best with a clear gap before the show or dancing you want afterward.

Reserve, arrive early, or simply show up

  • Reserve specialty dining, desired Mareel treatments, and high-priority shore experiences before boarding when possible.
  • Arrive early for Royal Court Theatre productions, Afternoon Tea, popular Golden Lion quizzes, and major scenic viewing in Commodore Club.
  • Register children for the clubs early and learn the sign-in, pager, and collection rules.
  • Check the daily program for dance lessons, Insights, Games Deck sessions, and any stated fee.
  • Ordinary pool use, Promenade walking, the Library, and most live music can be approached without a reservation.
  • Do not queue far ahead for an assigned dining time if the entrance has not opened; it blocks the aft corridor.

Learn three useful routes

Forward means Royal Court Theatre on Decks 1 through 3, Mareel and Fitness Center on Deck 9, and Commodore Club on Deck 10. Midship means Grand Lobby, Queens Room, Golden Lion, Pavilion Pool, and Garden Lounge.

Aft means Britannia dining on the lower public decks and Lido Restaurant and Pool on Deck 9. The Grill restaurants are in the midships private complex on Deck 11, while public games are forward on that deck.

The main bottleneck appears when a theater show ends near a dinner wave. Use Deck 3’s Promenade when open or move one residential deck above the public spine.

Elevator demand also rises before Grill dinner and after late shows. Guests able to use stairs can move one or two levels and call an elevator away from the largest crowd.

Keep weather in the plan: both Deck 9 pools are outdoors, while the Garden Lounge and Commodore Club give you indoor sitting and viewing options. The Deck 3 promenade has some shelter but can still close in rough conditions.

Queen Elizabeth : Pool Deck

Adapt the plan to weather and port time

For a cool scenic route, bring layers and alternate an indoor forward view with time on a public outdoor deck when it is open. Do not build the day around a remembered Alaska deployment or assume one sheltered seat gives the best view for an entire passage.

For a warm itinerary, try an earlier swim and plan a shaded or indoor break when the open deck gets uncomfortable. The Pavilion Pool is another outdoor location, not a covered alternative to the aft Lido Pool.

Longer Caribbean voyages can include many sea days, making enrichment and Games Deck planning more important.

Deployment changes over time. Verify the current voyage page, terminal, port sequence, and visa or entry rules for the exact booking.

Family, mobility, and accessibility planning

Check the Night Nursery before relying on an adult evening: it is included, first come, first served, for ages 6 to 23 months from 6 to 11 p.m. Some voyages cannot run it, and Cunard advises guests in advance when that happens.

Older age groups use The Play Zone, The Kids’ Zone, and The Teen Zone. Register at the start of the voyage and keep pickup times in the dining plan.

Travelers with mobility needs should choose from the officially marked accessible or mobility-device-friendly inventory. The distance from forward Royal Court Theatre to aft Britannia dining is meaningful when crowds move at once.

A central cabin near an elevator can be more useful than a theoretically quieter room at an extreme end.

The Promenade and exposed upper decks can close in bad weather. Pools, gangways, tenders, and Games Deck activities can also be limited.

Discuss equipment, assistance, dietary, and excursion needs with Cunard before sailing rather than relying on an onboard workaround.

Use the included conveniences

Queen Elizabeth’s self-service launderettes on Decks 4 through 8 include washers, dryers, detergent, and ironing facilities. Plan a wash during a less crowded period, set a timer, and return for the clothes so the next person can use the machine.

Use the supplied ironing facilities instead of bringing an iron, which is prohibited. Packing fewer repeat daytime outfits can leave useful space for evening clothing without making the suitcase much bigger.

Order the complimentary breakfast in bed for a morning when you want a slower start, or when it saves a trip before an excursion. Complete the card the previous evening and choose the delivery window with the meeting time in mind.

Other room-service food carries charges in Britannia, while Club and Grills food is complimentary unless stated otherwise. A free breakfast does not make every later order free, so read the room menu before placing the call.

Queen Elizabeth : Onboard Activity

Spend the first afternoon on practical jobs

Finish the required safety steps, locate your assigned restaurant, and ask about any dining request that matters to the group. Then learn the forward theater, aft dining, and nearest cabin-elevator routes while you have time to find them calmly.

Use our Queen Elizabeth deck guide for the upper public and private areas, and register children with the team before a busy evening. Choose a clear pickup or meeting point instead of agreeing only on a deck number.

If you want a Royal Court production, Afternoon Tea, or a particular dance session, find its time in the daily program. Leave room for the included experience you chose Cunard to enjoy before committing the same hour to a paid booking.

How this guide was researched
Recommendations combine Queen Elizabeth’s deck plan with Cunard accommodation, dining, activity and guest policies. Room examples identify documented layouts and physical neighbors, while the sailing program supplies times and available sessions.
