Nieuw Amsterdam Tips: Cabins, Packages and Planning

Book your Nieuw Amsterdam room for sleep and the routes you’ll repeat, then reserve the meal or experience you’d be disappointed to miss.

Use free Navigator aboard, compare the package with your real habits, and leave the best scenic hours open for the places you came to see.

Short version

Use free Navigator, select the room’s real neighbors, and reserve only the dinner or experience you most want. Price Have It All at your departure’s US $60/$65 daily rate, budget current $18/$20 Crew Appreciation unless included, and use any suite breakfast or laundry benefits before buying duplicates.

Spend the first afternoon on three useful jobs

Find the elevator bank serving your most repeated route, check that your most important dinner appears in Navigator, and choose a named meeting point such as the Deck 3 Library. Those small jobs make the first evening easier when show exits and dinner arrivals overlap.

Then put the shore bag together before dinner if tomorrow starts early: ship card, required identification, weather layer and any excursion ticket. Keep a slower Dining Room breakfast for a free morning and use Lido or a simple room-service order before a tight meeting time.

Nieuw Amsterdam : Harbor Arrival

Give the scenery the best part of the morning

On an Alaska sailing, find Crow’s Nest before the main scenic day so you already know the indoor viewing route. Use the forward view to see what’s coming, then step outside when you want to look freely from side to side.

Move between them instead of defending one chair for hours. Keep binoculars and an outer layer together so stepping outside does not require a return to your cabin.

Choose Tamarind and Morimoto for different reasons

Tamarind and the dedicated Morimoto by Sea restaurant give you two different Asian-inspired dinner choices. Compare the actual menus together and reserve the one whose dishes your group is most excited about.

Choose Tamarind for a broader Asian-inspired meal, or Morimoto when its Japanese-inspired seafood and signature dishes are the draw. Put that dinner on a sea day or light port day instead of squeezing it between a late excursion and an early show.

Use the balcony after dinner in Alaska

Long summer daylight can make an Alaska balcony useful after dinner as well as at breakfast. Take a short look outside before closing the curtains, especially when the ship is still passing scenery you want to see.

If lingering daylight bothers your sleep, pack an eye mask. It is a small item that can make those wonderfully long evenings easier to enjoy.

Save a casual meal for Dive-In

Keep Dive-In in mind when a burger or hot dog sounds better than another full restaurant meal. It’s an easy poolside change after a substantial lunch ashore, with dinner left flexible.

Nieuw Amsterdam : Atrium

Choose the right cabin position

For a sleep-focused cabin shortlist, compare central Deck 5 or 6 with accommodation above and below the actual room. Check the public floor under Deck 4 and Lido use above Deck 8 before choosing a convenient alternative; compare those layouts in best cabins, then use the cabin cautions for the specific public-space tradeoffs.

A balcony is attractive in Alaska, the Caribbean, and South America, but it is not the only way to see scenery. Deck 3’s promenade and Deck 11’s Crow’s Nest let a traveler change sides.

If a balcony premium crowds out shore experiences, an unobstructed Ocean View can be the smarter complete-trip purchase.

Club Orange on this ship

Club Orange is a paid capacity-controlled program for most cabin categories. On Nieuw Amsterdam, a non-Pinnacle ship, it gives priority Dining Room seating with an expanded breakfast and dinner menu rather than a dedicated private restaurant.

Club Orange adds priority check-in, Guest Services and shore-excursion lines, tender access where available, and disembarkation, plus help with reservations. It also includes an available room upgrade within the purchased broad category, making early cabin selection part of the value comparison.

Ask which room is actually available for the upgrade when adding Club Orange. If your current room already has the position, beds, and view you want, don’t assign much value to a different room simply because its grade is higher.

Neptune and Pinnacle guests already receive most Club Orange benefits, excluding the ordinary upgrade and special event.

Club Orange is useful for travelers who dislike peak dining waits or value priority operations on tender-heavy itineraries. It is weak value for guests with fixed dining, few tenders, an already ideal room, or a habit of avoiding service desks.

Choose one paid dinner before adding backups

The Dining Room, Lido Market, Dive-In, New York Pizza & Deli, and basic room-service choices form the included core, though some room-service and drink items can carry charges. Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto, Tamarind, Morimoto By Sea, and sushi are premium choices under their current terms.

The dedicated Morimoto restaurant is in the aft Deck 11 dining complex alongside Tamarind. Check its actual reservation and any additional items separately from a standard Have It All dining credit; the dining guide compares its food and cost with Tamarind and the included meals.

Save the reservation confirmation and check that its venue, time, and credit appear correctly in Navigator after boarding. Ask the dining team early if an assignment is missing or doesn’t fit your port return.

Reserve the one specialty meal that matters most before adding backups. Dining credits do not guarantee the most popular time.

Nieuw Amsterdam : Casual Dining

Use Navigator before and during the cruise

Download Navigator, sign in, and complete online check-in before leaving home. On board, connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi even without buying external internet.

The app shows the daily program, menus, dining bookings, shore excursions, chat, and the onboard statement.

Favorite must-do activities and enable useful reminders. Do not save everything.

Too many alerts turn the tool into noise. Take screenshots of key reservations and meeting details in case the app reloads slowly during a crowded moment.

Check the statement at least every other day. A question is easier to resolve while the charge and venue are fresh.

Guest Services is on Deck 1, but simple booking questions can often be handled in the app or by the relevant dining, shore, or spa desk.

Entertainment and crowd strategy

World Stage, Casino, Billboard Onboard, and Rolling Stone Lounge concentrate forward and midship on Deck 2. The upper theater exit, shops, Library, and Ocean Bar are on Deck 3.

The central elevators can be busy when show and music releases overlap. Use the stairs for a short trip if able, or wait a few minutes while the first wave clears.

Arrive at World Stage 20 to 30 minutes early for a preferred seat. After the show, take stairs for one deck if able, move to a music venue, or wait several minutes before calling an elevator.

Use the central bank for Pinnacle Grill and Pinnacle Bar, the aft bank for the main Dining Room, and the forward bank for World Stage. Leave enough walking time when dinner and entertainment are at opposite ends.

Lido Market peaks at standard breakfast and lunch times. The Dining Room can be calmer when open, and New York Pizza or Dive-In can split a casual meal.

On cold or rainy days, the covered Lido Pool and Crow’s Nest absorb much of the ship. Schedule spa, sports, or a quieter meal away from the first indoor rush.

Money, service charges, and account holds

Check the current card-authorization terms and leave enough available credit for the ship account as well as your travel expenses. Review purchases while the charge and venue are fresh, so any question can be resolved before the final morning.

Current US guidance gives daily Crew Appreciation of $18 per guest in a non-suite and $20 in a suite, unless the booking includes it. For two people on seven nights, that is $252 or $280 respectively, so include it when comparing the full trip price.

Specialty dining and beverage purchases carry a 20% service charge, while spa and salon services carry 18% under the current terms. Check whether the displayed booking total already includes the charge before adding it again to your own budget.

Keep shore currency separate from the U.S. dollar ship account, especially on routes visiting Canada, the Caribbean, or South America.

Spa, Thermal Suite, and Retreat planning

The Greenhouse Spa, salon, fitness center, and Thermal Suite are forward on Deck 9. The Hydropool belongs to the paid Thermal Suite, not the included Lido and Sea View pool program.

Spa treatments and thermal passes can sell out on poor-weather sea days.

Reserve a specific treatment before sailing when timing matters, then compare port-day promotions onboard only if flexibility is more important. Retreat cabanas sit forward on Deck 11.

They are most valuable for repeated warm-weather use and much less predictable in cold, wet, or windy conditions.

Nieuw Amsterdam : Onboard Activity

Families and multigenerational groups

Kids Club serves ages 3-17, requires toilet-trained and pull-up-free participants, and is not offered on cruises of 25 days or longer. Register early, confirm session times, and remember that an adult must remain aboard during port-day participation.

High Score and Kids Club are together on Deck 10 aft, with food below and Sport Court above.

Choose one fixed meeting point with a deck number, such as the Library on Deck 3 or Crow’s Nest on Deck 11. ‘The bar near the elevator’ is not enough.

Navigator chat can help, but a physical fallback remains valuable when phones are charging or alerts are missed.

For mobility needs, remember that accessible does not mean short walking distance. World Stage and the spa are forward, Dining Room and Tamarind are aft, and the ship has long horizontal runs.

Request accessibility accommodations well before departure and choose the elevator bank based on repeated destinations.

Dress and daily atmosphere

Daytime dress is casual. Holland America’s current dress guidance calls for smart casual clothing in most table-service restaurants at night and more polished attire on Dressy Nights.

Shorts, beachwear, distressed jeans, and tank tops are not allowed in table-service restaurants. Grand Voyages can add formal suggestions.

The general rhythm is polished but not rigid: destination activities by day, cocktails and music before or after dinner, then a quieter ship later than many mass-market vessels. Pack for the itinerary first and add one flexible dressy outfit rather than building luggage around a nightly costume change.

Route-specific planning

Count the actual sea days, scenic passages, and port hours on your booking. They decide how much use you’ll get from the cabin, spa, and package more reliably than the ship’s seasonal reputation.

For a long cruise, compare the storage, sleeping layout, and laundry options before paying for a room. A setup that works for seven nights may feel different when everyone needs to unpack and keep a comfortable routine for several weeks.

For Alaska, prioritize layers, rain protection, binoculars, and access to Crow’s Nest plus both sides of Deck 3. For the Caribbean, prioritize shade, hydration, and an early plan for Sea View Pool chairs.

Price Have It All from your own habits

For US departures before summer 2027, standard Have It All costs $60 per person per day; the later rate is $65. It combines Signature drinks, Surf Wi-Fi, a specialty-dining allowance, and shore credit, while early-booking versions can offer different benefits.

On a 4-9-night cruise, the current allowance is one eligible specialty dinner and up to $100 shore credit per person. Longer 10-20-night cruises receive two dinners and $200; 21-night-or-longer cruises receive three and $300, with Grand Voyage exclusions.

The Signature drinks allowance covers qualifying drinks up to $12, with up to 15 beverages per day. Price the coffee, soda, wine, and cocktails you actually expect to order, and check the exact purchased terms before treating a higher-priced menu item as covered.

At the $60 rate, seven nights add $420 per person or $840 for two; at $65, the same upgrade is $455 each or $910 for two. Compare that with the drinks, internet, eligible dinner, and shore credit you’ll actually use, keeping Crew Appreciation separate unless your confirmation includes it.

Nieuw Amsterdam : Lounge

Use the suite benefits you already bought

If you booked Neptune or Pinnacle, plan to visit the Neptune Lounge and ask the concierge about dinner times early. Check the included laundry benefits before buying a separate laundry plan, because that benefit can make packing for a longer route much easier.

Those suites also include the applicable Club Orange benefits, so don’t buy another program merely to receive the same priority services. On Nieuw Amsterdam, that means priority main Dining Room seating and an expanded menu; it does not create the private Club Orange dining room found on Pinnacle-class ships.

For suite breakfast, ask about the Pinnacle Grill arrangement and actual hours before planning an early shore morning. Use it on a day when you can sit comfortably, and keep the faster breakfast option for a tight excursion departure.
