Brilliant Lady Tips, Secrets & Things to Know: Rojo, Shows & Mexican Riviera Planning
Plan Brilliant Lady around Rojo, Murder in the Manor, Red Hot, and the outward-facing Athletic Club.
Leave space between those priorities for The Dock and a favorite restaurant, especially on a Mexican Riviera itinerary where shore days and sea days ask for different kinds of energy.
Short version
- Best first move: Let the Mexican Riviera itinerary shape the ship time.
- Worth planning: Rojo by Razzle Dazzle is the dinner to book first.
- Easy win: Rojo at night does not make daytime Razzle Dazzle redundant.
- Important tradeoff: Murder in the Manor is the Brilliant Lady show to protect first.
- Cabin strategy: Choose a Brilliant Lady cabin near the spaces you will repeat, then check the rooms and venues directly above and below it.

Let the Mexican Riviera itinerary shape the ship time
On a Mexican Riviera voyage from Los Angeles that visits Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta, you should mark the port days before reserving dinner and shows. Use the actual arrival times on your booking, because an afternoon call and a full day ashore leave very different space for ship activities.
Use the first sea day to explore and the final two to repeat. That is enough time for Rojo, Scarlet Night, one or two big shows, the spa, a slow Dock afternoon, and a second dinner at whichever restaurant wins without turning the voyage into reservation management.
The three Mexico days sit back-to-back, so keep those evenings softer. A long port day followed by a full dinner, show, nightclub, and 1:00 AM pizza run is fun once and considerably less charming three nights in a row.
Rojo by Razzle Dazzle is the dinner you should book first
Dining windows depend on booking date and fare: for bookings Lock It In/Base opens 15 days out, Essential 45, Premium 60, and RockStar/Mega RockStar 120. Earlier bookings use 45 days for standard cabins and 60 for those suites, so reserve your priority Brilliant dinner as soon as your own window opens.
Rojo exists only on Brilliant Lady, which immediately makes it your first dinner priority over repeating a fleetwide favorite. The Spanish-inspired menu is built around tapas, pintxos, larger shared plates, paella-style dishes, and cocktails that make the room feel much more grown-up than the original Razzle Dazzle concept.
Go with people willing to share. Ordering several smaller plates and one larger dish gives the table a much better sense of the restaurant than four people each protecting one safe entrée.
The room still uses the Razzle Dazzle name in places, so remember that Rojo is the evening identity of that space. If the app or signage makes you feel like you have arrived at the wrong restaurant, you probably have not.
Treat Yourself items can cost extra even though the standard restaurant is included. Look at the upcharge dishes because they interest you, not because an included-dining cruise somehow becomes incomplete without the premium item.
Rojo at night does not make daytime Razzle Dazzle redundant
The same area can function differently for breakfast and brunch, which is why you should visit again on a sea day. Morning food, lighter energy, and a completely different room atmosphere make this more than simply revisiting the dinner restaurant before noon.
Put brunch on the first or final sea-day stretch rather than on a Mexico morning. Virgin gives you enough onboard time here that breakfast does not need to compete with Cabo or Puerto Vallarta.
Murder in the Manor is the Brilliant Lady show you should protect first
Murder in the Manor blends a whodunit with 1980s horror influences, dancing, and audience involvement. Prioritize it when solving clues and joining the action sound more appealing than a conventional seated show.
Check the app as soon as you are onboard because the process can require a reservation even though the show itself is included. Grab a workable performance and then build dinner around it instead of assuming you can wander into the most convenient show later.
Arrive early enough to get a useful viewpoint and have the full group physically present when check-in rules require it. An immersive show loses a lot when you spend the first fifteen minutes craning around a column because everyone treated arrival time as a suggestion.
Red Hot is the big music show you should choose when you want pure Virgin energy
Red Hot traces decades of Virgin Records music with high-energy choreography, archival visuals, and the brand’s own music history built into the production. Choose it when you want the big celebratory concert-style night rather than another immersive mystery.
Murder in the Manor and Red Hot are different enough that seeing both makes sense on a seven-night voyage. Do not then feel obligated to attend every other headline show simply because the schedule still contains empty boxes.
Out of Time is the musical-comedy alternative, using a broken time machine to jump through eras with music and choreography. If one person in the group loves comedy more than a jukebox-style revue, compare that show directly with Red Hot rather than assuming one title is universally better.
Up With a Twist is a paid supper club, not another included show
Up With a Twist turns The Manor into a 1920s-inspired supper club with live music, theatrical characters, and dinner. It carries an additional charge, so compare the ticket’s meal and beverage inclusions before choosing it over an included restaurant.
Book it only when the combined dinner-and-show format sounds better than keeping a regular restaurant reservation. The whole point is letting the meal and performance become the evening, not squeezing this in before Extra Virgin because both seemed good online.
A sea-day evening is a good fit when the group wants to enjoy the whole dinner-and-show experience. Keep the afternoon’s food lighter and avoid placing another restaurant reservation beside it.
Scarlet Night is still the shipwide event you should build an evening around
Scarlet Night moves through the ship rather than functioning like one production in one room. Red outfits, pop-up performance, live music, dancing, hidden moments, and the eventual pool-deck party make it better when dinner leaves enough space to wander.
You do not need a costume. Something red, comfortable shoes, and willingness to follow the energy are more useful than an outfit complicated enough to require its own carry-on.
Keep the next morning in mind before deciding how committed you are to the late part of the party. On this itinerary, back-to-back Mexican ports mean a late Scarlet Night can make an early Mazatlán start less appealing.
The main pool is still tiny, so stop asking it to behave like a resort lagoon
Brilliant Lady shares Virgin’s small social-pool concept rather than a giant swimming pool. The Aquatic Club is built for lounging, cooling off, music, conversation, and people who are perfectly happy standing in water with a drink.
Go early if you care about a particular sea-day lounger and move on when the deck is clearly packed. Three sea days give you multiple tries, which makes circling one full pool at noon feel especially unnecessary.
The late September Mexican Riviera route can be hot enough that the pool draws a real crowd. Use the first sea-day morning, dinner hours, or the late afternoon instead of assuming 1:00 PM is the only time water works.

The Athletic Club is one of Brilliant Lady’s best ship-specific upgrades
Brilliant Lady’s Athletic Club was reworked with a panoramic glass wall at the stern and outward-facing circular daybeds designed to make scenery part of the space. The upgrade makes this area useful even when nobody is doing anything remotely athletic.
Go on the first sea day with coffee or a book and see whether this becomes your quiet outdoor base. The aft view is much more interesting than spending all three sea days trying to win a closer chair beside the tiny main pool.
Morning exercise is excellent here too, but do not turn Virgin’s included fitness programming into a personal training boot camp simply because classes are available. Walking three Mexican ports and taking the stairs onboard already counts as movement.
The Dock is where to spend the hour between afternoon and dinner
The Dock sits aft with daybeds, Mediterranean-style small plates, drinks, and a redesigned stage for live music. Brilliant Lady’s version received updates that make the seating and view feel deliberately connected to the coastline and wake.
Go around 4:00 or 5:00 PM, order a few skewers or small plates, and stay if the musician is good. This solves the exact pre-dinner period when everyone is too hungry to wait comfortably and not hungry enough to justify eating dinner immediately.
Do not order a full second dinner by accident. The Dock is at its best when it stretches the afternoon, not when it becomes meal number one before a 7:00 PM Gunbae reservation.
The Roundabout is warmer and more useful than on the first Lady Ships
Brilliant Lady’s central Roundabout was redesigned with deeper navy seating, jewel-toned lounges, and Draught Haus serving barista coffee alongside the beer taps. Use this as a central indoor meeting and people-watching area rather than treating the staircase itself as the attraction.
The coffee addition is especially useful when the group wants to meet centrally without committing to The Galley. A place that serves espresso in the morning and beer later is a surprisingly efficient piece of adult-only ship design.
Choose an exact location when meeting friends. “At the Roundabout” still describes enough furniture and staircases to produce several separate groups texting increasingly detailed descriptions of where they are sitting.
The Galley is not a buffet, but breakfast can still have a buffet-style rush
The Galley uses multiple counters and stations rather than one traditional buffet, with all-day breakfast, tacos, noodles, burgers, salads, desserts, sushi-style grab-and-go choices, and other rotating food. Walk the full room before ordering because the first station you see is not remotely the whole lineup.
Port mornings are the crowd pressure point. Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta both have conventional morning arrivals, so shifting breakfast thirty minutes earlier can do more for the experience than discovering any secret food venue.
On the sea days, eat whenever hunger arrives instead of joining a breakfast crowd simply because breakfast normally happens at 9:00 AM Virgin’s lack of fixed dining is most useful when you actually stop behaving like every meal needs a standard clock.
Extra Virgin is still the restaurant you should happily repeat
Extra Virgin is the Italian dinner you should book when the group wants something polished, familiar, and easy after a full port day. Pasta, antipasti, wine, and a calmer pace make it an excellent recovery dinner after Mazatlán or Puerto Vallarta.
Secure a first visit before planning a repeat. If another reservation is unavailable, ask the restaurant about a walk-up or waitlist and keep The Dock or Pizza Place as a flexible alternative.
Do not feel guilty repeating it. Brilliant Lady gives you enough included dining that returning to the restaurant you loved is better than completing a dining checklist for its own sake.
The Wake, Pink Agave, Gunbae, Test Kitchen, and Rojo all have stronger identities, but that does not mean they are automatically better for tonight. Match the restaurant to the evening instead of ranking them like a tournament.
Gunbae is a social dinner, so book it when you want a social dinner
Gunbae combines Korean barbecue, communal tables, grilling, and drinking-game energy. Book it when the group wants to talk, share, and possibly meet other Sailors rather than when everyone is craving a quiet date-night conversation.
The fried chicken is worth making room for along with the grilled food. Start with a reasonable amount and order more when needed instead of turning the first wave of dinner into a table-level endurance event.
If the Mexico days leave everyone socially exhausted, move Gunbae to a sea day. The ship has enough flexibility that the reservation should fit the mood rather than dictate it.
Pizza Place is the post-Manor insurance policy
Pizza Place serves individual pizzas and becomes far more important after Murder in the Manor, Red Hot, Scarlet Night, or a late night in The Manor than it looks at noon. Find it on Day 1 before tired people need food immediately.
Split one when dinner happened hours ago and the group just needs something warm. Adults-only cruising gives you freedom, but it does not require a second full dinner at midnight simply because pizza is available.
Use a later Cabo arrival for a relaxed ship morning
If your Cabo call begins in the afternoon, use the morning aboard instead of waiting around for disembarkation. Choose a relaxed breakfast and The Dock before getting ready for the tender.
Use it for brunch, the pool, spa, Athletic Club, Dock, or a slow workout instead of spending the morning staring at the coastline waiting for permission to leave. This can be one of the calmest ship periods outside the full sea days.
Cabo San Lucas is a tender port, so the journey ashore includes a boat transfer. If step-free shore access is essential, ask Virgin to confirm the transfer arrangements and available assistance for the exact departure before booking an independent outing.
For everyone using a tender, build the transfer into the day. The listed arrival time is not the time you can promise to meet an independent guide ashore.

Mazatlán is the port where to choose city or beach, not both plus three other things
A full-day Mazatlán call gives you time for the historic center, beaches, food, a regional excursion, or an activity farther afield. Pick the version you actually want instead of treating a full port day like permission to drive across the region repeatedly.
This is a great food day if you enjoy local seafood and Mexican cuisine. Happily make lunch ashore part of the destination and keep dinner on Brilliant Lady easier afterward.
Back onboard, shower and reset before committing to a big evening. An early Puerto Vallarta start is a good reason to finish the previous evening before a late night becomes a tired shore day.
Puerto Vallarta is the last port before two sea days, so use it properly
When Puerto Vallarta is followed by sea days back to Los Angeles, there is room to recover after an active day ashore. Let this be the full shore day because there is plenty of ship time waiting afterward.
Beaches, food, neighborhoods, boat trips, adventure excursions, and the surrounding countryside all compete for the same port day. Choose one strong plan and stop asking the port to become every Mexico vacation you have not taken yet.
The two sea days afterward are where Redemption Spa, repeat dining, Scarlet Night recovery, Athletic Club, Dock, shows, and serious laziness can happen. Saving something onboard for the end is a strategy, not procrastination.
The gratuity rule needs to be in your budget
For bookings made on or Virgin adds $22 USD per Sailor per night in service gratuities, or offers $20 when prepaid. Older bookings generally retain included gratuities, subject to their applicable terms and any later reservation changes.
Prepay only when the discount and simplicity matter more than flexibility. Prepaid gratuity is locked in and nonrefundable, while the onboard amount can be modified through Sailor Services before disembarkation.
Use the terms attached to your booking when comparing the complete cruise cost. Once the service gratuity is covered, there are no separate gratuities added to drinks, dining, or spa services.
Bar Tab is credit, not an unlimited drink package
Virgin does not sell a traditional unlimited drink package. Bar Tab is prepaid credit for premium beverages, and tiers can include bonus drink credit when purchased before sailing.
Buy conservatively because unused Bar Tab is not refunded at the end. If you run out, later drinks simply charge to the regular onboard account, which is far less painful than trying to finish excess prepaid credit on the final night.
You can use Bar Tab for another Sailor’s drink too, so couples and friends do not necessarily need identical balances. It also covers premium nonalcoholic beverages such as specialty coffee, mocktails, smoothies, and fresh juices.
Basic soda, filtered water, drip coffee, tea, and standard non-pressed juices are already included. A person who mostly drinks those does not need a large Bar Tab simply because someone else in the cabin loves cocktails.
Sea Terrace is the cabin you can choose for this exact seven-night route
Most Sea Terrace cabins have Virgin’s red hammock and private balcony, and three sea days give you enough time for that outdoor space to earn the upgrade. Choose the category when coffee, reading, naps, and a quiet place away from the pool deck sound like real parts of the cruise.
The cabin itself is modern and compact, with tablet controls, mood lighting, a convertible bed setup, and a relatively tight bathroom. If bathroom size matters more than a perfectly central location, compare XL Sea Terrace before automatically choosing Central Sea Terrace.
Limited View Sea Terrace can be a useful value when fresh air and the hammock matter more than an uninterrupted horizon. Check the exact room because the degree and type of obstruction can vary.
For room planning, use our cabin guides and cabin-location checklist to compare layouts and nearby public spaces. Our cruise ship guides help compare the broader experience before you settle on Brilliant Lady.
RockStar is most valuable when Richard’s Rooftop and reservation help change your sea days
RockStar and Mega RockStar suites add more than cabin size, including access to Richard’s Rooftop, stronger reservation support, upgraded in-room bar setups, and more personalized service. Price the experience based on how often you plan to use the private space and service, not how dramatic the suite name sounds.
Three sea days make Richard’s Rooftop more relevant because you have time to sit there. If this were a port-every-day itinerary, the same premium might spend most daylight hours waiting for you to return from shore.
RockStar dining and show access can also make a busy first day easier, but still check the booking process onboard. Status helps with access, not with telepathy.
Redemption Spa is the paid sea-day retreat you can compare before buying a cabana
Redemption Spa gives you the thermal suite, treatments, and a very different atmosphere from the social pool deck. On three sea days, one thermal session or treatment can be much more useful than paying for outdoor space when the group rarely sits still.
Compare the thermal-suite timing and price with how you actually relax. If the idea of heated rooms, hydrotherapy, and quiet sounds wonderful, book it; if you immediately start thinking about how long you would be trapped away from the pool, save the money.
Sea-day afternoon is the obvious popular time. Earlier morning or an evening slot can make the same spa feel considerably more peaceful.
The Band and app should be ready before embarkation becomes the first technology problem
The Band handles cabin access and onboard purchases; the Virgin Voyages app handles dining, schedules, bookings, and contact with Sailor Services. Agree on a meeting place with friends rather than assume it provides a group-messaging service.
Screenshot the reservations you care about and use a specific meeting point with friends. The app is excellent until somebody’s battery dies and the entire group has described its location as “near the red stairs.”
Keep Brilliant Lady’s deck plan handy during the first day, but by Day 2 it is better to know “aft Dock” and “Manor on Deck 6” than spend the week staring at maps.
Continue planning with the things to do, deck guide, best cabins.
How this guide was researched: This guide was checked against the cruise line’s current ship pages, deck plans, venue listings, and published policies. Details can change by sailing, so confirm booking-sensitive prices, hours, access rules, and cabin assignments before payment.

your first-day Brilliant Lady plan
Complete the required safety briefing after boarding in Los Angeles, connect the Virgin app and Band, check Murder in the Manor, Red Hot, Rojo, Gunbae, Extra Virgin, and any paid Up With a Twist reservation you genuinely care about, then stop reserving things. Lunch would come from The Galley, The Dock, Pizza Place, Sun Club Café, or whichever included option fits where you already am.
After lunch, you can walk The Athletic Club, Dock, Aquatic Club, Roundabout, Manor, Red Room, Redemption Spa, Pizza Place, Rojo, The Galley, and Richard’s Rooftop if eligible so the ship’s major zones make sense before the first sea day. Sea Terrace guests should also go use the hammock they partly paid to have.
Confirm the tender/accessibility warning before Cabo and keep the first sea day loose enough to see whether outdoor weather, Murder in the Manor availability, or a spa slot changes the plan. Leave the smaller activities flexible so a good performance or quiet hour can become the plan.
Brilliant Lady is at its best when you use the things that belong to Brilliant Lady. Eat Rojo instead of reflexively repeating the same Virgin dinner plan from another ship, protect Murder in the Manor, let the refreshed Athletic Club and Dock own a sea-day afternoon, spend Mexico ashore without overbooking the evenings, and use the final two sea days as permission to repeat the places that already proved they were good.
Keep planning with the Brilliant pros and cons, cabins to avoid, and Brilliant Lady dining guide.
