Norwegian Breakaway Best Cabins & Suites: The Smartest Room Choices

A selected standard balcony on Deck 10 or 11 is the strongest starting point for most couples on Norwegian Breakaway.

An M6 is worth comparing for a larger balcony, while The Haven earns its premium through private facilities and the right family layout.

Short version: Most couples should start with a selected Deck 10 or 11 balcony; compare forward 8112 or 9110 for outdoor shape, M6 for a larger balcony and bathroom, and the Haven 2-Bedroom Villa for a family that needs separate bedrooms and private facilities.

Breakaway balcony shapes worth comparing

Breakaway has balcony shapes worth checking before paying for a higher category. Compare these room numbers against the exact fare, current layout and route to the places you will use most.

  • 8112: a forward-port Deck 8 Balcony with a deeper outdoor footprint. Confirm furniture, capacity and the forward-location tradeoff before booking.
  • 9110: a forward-port Deck 9 Balcony beside the Large Balcony section. Compare its angled outdoor space with nearby standard rooms at the same fare.
  • 8730: a starboard M6 candidate on Deck 8. The M6 category offers 310 to 322 square feet total, including 103 to 118 square feet of balcony.
  • 13890: a Deck 13 starboard candidate at an angled section. Compare its actual balcony outline and fare with neighboring 13888 rather than assume an automatic free upgrade.

At a similar fare to nearby ordinary balconies, 8112 or 9110 can be worth choosing for their unusual outdoor shapes, provided the forward location suits you. Extra outdoor space is valuable when you also accept the forward position and daily walk.

My quick picks:

  • Best for most couples: standard balcony on Deck 10 or 11 with cabins above and below.
  • Best hidden standard balcony: 8112 or 9110.
  • Best large-balcony upgrade: M6 Club Balcony Suite such as 8730.
  • Best solo choice: Studio close to the Studio Lounge.
  • Best family value: Family Oceanview or two connecting balconies, depending on the fare.
  • Best luxury upgrade: Haven 2-Bedroom Family Villa for families, or a Haven Owner’s Suite for adults who will use the private enclave.

For most couples, Deck 10 or 11 is the easy choice

A standard balcony is my starting point for two adults because it adds private outdoor time without the suite premium. Breakaway’s ordinary balcony categories vary in size, and the room gives you enough interior space plus a private outdoor area without moving into Club Balcony or Haven pricing.

Start on Decks 10 and 11 for a room surrounded by other cabins. Lower rooms need a closer look at the public decks, while the highest accommodation needs an overhead check against pools and fitness areas.

Aim for a short walk to a useful elevator bank, with a few cabin doors between your room and the lobby. Breakaway is long, and the Waterfront, theater, buffet, pools, and restaurants pull you in different directions all day.

Many standard balconies are compact, but the category includes some unusual outdoor shapes. Let the usable outdoor shape earn the upgrade rather than the category’s position on the price list.

Cabin 8112 is the kind of regular balcony I love finding

Cabin 8112 is a forward-port Deck 8 Balcony worth checking for its deeper outdoor area. Confirm the current furniture and sleeping capacity rather than treating a previous guest’s lounger arrangement as guaranteed.

This forward location deserves a motion and operational-noise check, especially on an itinerary with tender ports. A good experience on one sailing does not establish that the room will always be quiet.

8112 is a useful candidate when balcony space matters more than the larger M6 bathroom. The cabin itself remains a normal balcony room, so you are not paying for extra bathroom features you may not care about.

The Deck 8 location keeps The Waterfront on the same level. You still need to walk aft from the forward cabin area to reach its public dining and bar spaces.

Cabin 9110 is an angled-balcony candidate

Cabin 9110 is forward on Deck 9, on the port side beside the Large Balcony section. Its angled outdoor shape makes it worth comparing with nearby standard balconies when the exact fare and layout suit you.

That makes 9110 attractive when the fare matches nearby standard balconies. You get more outdoor room without giving up the ordinary cabin layout.

9110 sits above the forward Deck 8 accommodation section, while the Waterfront bars and restaurants are farther aft. That is a different floor relationship from Deck 9 cabins directly over the public venue band.

Choose 9110 for its balcony shape, with the forward location and walk to nightlife as part of the purchase. Compare its forward position with a more central Deck 10 or 11 room if motion or walking distance matters more.

M6 large-balcony Club Balcony Suites are worth the premium when you use the balcony

Breakaway’s Club Balcony Suites generally add bathroom space, including double sinks and a larger shower. Compare the actual balcony as well, because many regular Club Balcony rooms still have a compact outdoor area.

M6 Club Balcony Suites with Larger Balcony are forward on Deck 8, with 310 to 322 square feet of total space. Cabin 8730, on the starboard side, is one candidate to compare.

The M6 category includes approximately 103 to 118 square feet of balcony space within that total. Confirm 8730’s current layout and furniture before counting on a particular number of loungers or tables.

The forward location means a longer walk to aft dining and potentially more movement in rough water. M6 earns the premium when private outdoor time is a daily pleasure.

Aft-facing cabins reward time on the balcony

B1 aft-facing balconies vary widely in outdoor space, while M1 aft Club Balcony Suites are a separate Deck 10 option for two guests. Both deserve a room-specific comparison when a wake view matters.

Book aft when wake-view coffee and time outside after dinner are priorities. It can also be convenient for aft dining and Spice H2O, while the theater, spa and main Haven complex require a longer walk forward.

The exact deck matters because aft balcony dimensions, overhangs and exposure vary. Compare the specific balcony plan rather than assume a lower or higher aft room will be more sheltered.

The exact balcony depth, shelter and price should settle an aft upgrade; B1 and aft Club Balcony titles alone do not tell you how useful the outdoor space will feel.

Family Balcony works best when its layout fits

B4 Family Balcony cabins are on Decks 13 and 14 and accommodate up to four. Their 207 to 208 square feet of total space includes a 32-square-foot balcony, so the family label does not promise a wider room.

For frequent Splash Academy visits, favor a room whose route to the Deck 12 reception near the forward elevators is straightforward. Families using the club frequently may value that route more than a different balcony shape.

Deck 14 sits beneath a mix of pool, buffet, spa, fitness and Haven accommodation areas. Light sleepers should check the exact overhead footprint, while families needing more room can compare connecting balconies lower down.

Two connecting rooms give you two bathrooms, more storage, and an actual door between adults and children. That can be a better family upgrade than a single larger room, especially with older children.

Studio is still one of NCL’s smartest solo products

Breakaway has purpose-built Studios for one guest plus access to the Studio Lounge. Choose a Studio for its solo social setup as well as its compact room, using the actual single-occupancy fare to judge value.

T1 Studios are approximately 97 to 131 square feet, with the Studio Lounge on Decks 10 and 11 providing shared space outside the cabin. The compact layout works best when you expect to spend much of the day around the ship.

A Solo Balcony is worth pricing alongside a Studio when private outdoor space may matter more than the purpose-built solo room. If Studio Lounge access is essential, confirm it for the exact Solo category before swapping the Studio for another room type.

The Haven is worth paying for when you want a calmer version of Breakaway

The Haven combines suites with private facilities and butler and concierge service. Choose the main enclave for a short route to its private facilities, or an outside Haven suite when its balcony and location better suit the trip.

The Haven makes most sense when private dining, outdoor space and attentive service will change ordinary days; room size alone is a weaker reason to pay its premium.

Haven balcony sizes vary considerably: the 2-Bedroom Family Villas have roughly 39 to 50 square feet outside, while aft penthouses offer much more. Compare the exact category instead of assuming the suite premium buys the largest balcony.

If private outdoor space matters more than Haven facilities, compare M6 or the Deck 10 M1 aft Club Balcony category. Those are useful alternatives, but they do not include Haven access.

The Haven 2-Bedroom Villa suits families with different bedtimes

The H6 Haven 2-Bedroom Family Villa accommodates up to six, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms on Decks 15 and 16. Confirm the individual bed arrangement before deciding whether it suits your family.

The separate bedrooms suit grandparents traveling with family, older children and different bedtimes. Two bathrooms alone can turn getting ready for dinner from a negotiation into a non-event.

The balcony is not enormous compared with some non-Haven aft rooms. Book the Villa when two bedrooms and private Haven access matter more than the largest possible balcony.

The two Deluxe Owner’s categories deserve a close comparison

H2 offers 932 square feet of total space, including a 204-square-foot balcony, while H3 offers 572 total with a 95-square-foot balcony. Both are forward on Deck 16 and accommodate up to four.

These suites suit a milestone trip with plenty of room time; a smaller Haven category is better value when the private restaurant and sundeck are the main attractions.

Selected H2 suites can connect to a Haven Courtyard Penthouse. Confirm the exact connecting pair and approved occupancy before pricing a combined family arrangement.

The best cabin choices by traveler

  • Couple: standard balcony on Deck 10 or 11.
  • Hidden balcony hunter: 8112, 9110, or another documented angled bump-out.
  • Large-balcony splurge: M6 such as 8730.
  • Wake-view fan: aft-facing balcony after comparing exact deck dimensions.
  • Solo traveler: Studio near the Lounge.
  • Family with young kids: Family Balcony if proximity matters most.
  • Family with older kids: connecting balconies.
  • Family luxury: Haven 2-Bedroom Family Villa.
  • Top-end adult splurge: Owner’s or Deluxe Owner’s Suite.

Breakaway cabin mistakes to avoid

Do not assume a standard balcony is standard. Bump-out geometry creates rooms such as 8112 and 9110 that quietly get more outdoor space.

Do not apply the same noise warning to every Deck 9 room. Forward rooms can have accommodation below, while cabins farther aft may sit over Waterfront restaurants and bars.

Do not choose Deck 14 solely for family convenience if sleep is fragile. Check whether the specific room sits beneath accommodation, spa or fitness facilities, the pool band or Garden Café.

Do not pay Haven prices simply because the room is larger. Decide whether you actually value the private restaurant, pool, lounge, concierge, and butler.

And do not assume a Club Balcony Suite has a huge balcony. M6 and aft categories are special; many ordinary Club Balcony balconies remain fairly small.

Use our ship guides for the final location check after you narrow the category.

The Breakaway cabin choice that earns its price

For balcony enthusiasts, compare 8112 and 9110 with a selected middle-deck room at the same fare. An unusual balcony is worth taking only when its fare, forward position and current layout also work.

For a larger bathroom as well as outdoor space, M6 cabin 8730 or another available M6 is the next sensible comparison. Confirm the current balcony furniture if loungers are central to the upgrade.

For luxury, put The Haven’s private facilities ahead of the room’s title; a family that needs separate bedrooms has a strong reason to choose the 2-Bedroom Villa.

Use the cabin location advice to settle the larger-balcony versus easier-location choice before final payment, considering the room’s outlook and your daily route together.

Make the upgrade earn its fare

For M6, the published 310 to 322 square feet is the total space, not just the room. M1 aft Club Balcony is much larger at 513 to 585 square feet total but accommodates two, so it is not automatically the family upgrade.

The ship’s accommodation choices separate the total area from the balcony description, which makes the room and outdoor space worth evaluating separately.

The deck plan is also worth using for the room above, below and next door. Extra balcony space is useful, but it does not remove a long walk, a public deck nearby or exposure to wind.

For solo travel, compare the total fare and confirmed lounge benefits of a Studio and the designated Solo categories; Studios include lounge access, while the exact Solo reservation should establish its own entitlement.

For mobility needs, use the doorway, shower, bed clearance and equipment-storage details from Accessible Cruising. A bigger ordinary suite is not a substitute for an accessible layout, and the route from the room matters as much as its floor area.

Quick answers

What is the best Norwegian Breakaway cabin for most couples?

A selected standard balcony on Deck 10 or 11, with accommodation above and below, is my starting point for most couples. Choose 8112 or 9110 instead when their unusual balcony space is worth the forward position to you.

What is the best large-balcony cabin on Breakaway?

M6 cabin 8730 is one large-balcony candidate to price alongside available aft choices. Use the category total of 310 to 322 square feet as a starting point, then confirm its actual outdoor layout and the Deck 8 location.

Is The Haven worth it on Norwegian Breakaway?

It can be if you value the private restaurant, pool, sun deck, lounge, concierge, butler, and priority services. Pay for those private facilities and services when you will use them; several non-Haven categories already provide generous private space.

Before committing, use our cabin comparisons to weigh the room against the rest of your trip. Once the balcony, layout or private-area access solves your daily needs, there is little reason to keep climbing the category list.

How this guide was researched: I used Norwegian’s Breakaway deck plans, cabin descriptions and onboard listings, together with its published booking and access rules, to distinguish included options from upgrades and match the recommendations to this ship.
