Caribbean Princess Tips, Secrets & Things to Know: The Advice That Actually Helps

I’d find Caribbean Princess’s aft Terrace Pool and daytime Skywalkers before settling around the central pools.

The Reef gives families their own water-play option, the included adult Lotus Spa Pool deserves a look before Sanctuary, and Planks or Steamers can make a casual dinner feel different without a steakhouse reservation.

Short version:

  • I’d find Caribbean Princess’s aft Terrace Pool and daytime Skywalkers before settling around the central pools.
  • The Reef gives families their own water-play option, the included adult Lotus Spa Pool deserves a look before Sanctuary, and Planks or Steamers can make a casual dinner.
  • Confirm the cabin, included features, reservations and extra costs before final payment.

Use a Caribbean port sequence to leave some afternoons free

If your Caribbean itinerary includes Nassau, Princess Cays, Amber Cove or Grand Turk, leave some evenings open after beach days. Use your own port order and departure times to choose paid dinners and onboard activities.

An earlier Grand Turk departure can leave a useful late afternoon aboard, while Princess Cays needs time for the water-shuttle transfer. I would compare those practical differences before assigning every paid dinner to a random night.

I would use the first sea day to explore and later free time to repeat the places I liked. There is nothing wrong with returning to the same aft pool or lounge once it works for your group.

Terrace Pool is the first place I would show anyone who thinks the ship has one pool deck

The aft Terrace Pool is one of Caribbean Princess’s best older-ship features because it sits beneath Skywalkers and looks out toward the wake. The area feels completely different from the busier Neptune’s Reef and Calypso Reef pools farther forward.

I would walk all the way aft on embarkation afternoon and compare the seating before choosing an everyday pool spot. Skywalkers overhead creates useful shade in parts of the area, which can matter more than being six feet closer to the water in Caribbean sun.

This is not a secret private resort, and chairs can still fill. The advantage is the wake view, smaller scale, and the fact that plenty of first-time passengers stop walking as soon as they see the large central pools.

After a shorter Grand Turk outing, you should compare Terrace Pool with the central deck before heading straight to the cabin. A port afternoon can offer an easier chance to enjoy the aft view than the busiest part of a sea day.

Skywalkers is more useful before it becomes a nightclub

Skywalkers sits high aft in the distinctive structure above the wake and is one of the clearest visual reminders that Caribbean Princess belongs to an older generation of Princess design. Visit during daylight when the lounge is open and not being used for a private event.

The daytime view is the real trick. You get a high aft perspective without standing in full sun, and the room can be a quiet place to read, talk, or simply watch the ocean while the main pool deck is doing its much louder thing below.

At night, Skywalkers turns into the club and dance venue. Check the actual music and programming before deciding whether the evening belongs there, because a high view alone does not make a nightclub fun if nobody in your group wants the playlist.

Use the elevator or stair route once during the day so finding Skywalkers later does not become part of the entertainment. Older ships are easy after one orientation lap and oddly confusing before it.

International Café is basically ship infrastructure

International Café in the Piazza is the food venue you should teach everybody first. Sandwiches, pastries, quiche, salads, desserts, and small bites make it useful for breakfast, a light lunch, post-port hunger, or the moment when one person wants food and nobody else is ready for a full meal.

Use it before early Princess Cays or Grand Turk plans instead of automatically joining World Fresh Marketplace. A quick bite in the Piazza can be much calmer than carrying a buffet plate around at the exact hour everyone wants breakfast.

Specialty coffee follows its own pricing and package rules, so separate the drink from the included food in your mental budget. The pastry does not become expensive simply because the latte beside it is not included in the basic fare.

The Piazza also makes International Café an excellent meeting point. “International Café at 6:30” is a real instruction, while “meet in the atrium” can produce several confident people standing on different decks.

Movies Under the Stars deserves one real movie night

Caribbean Princess helped make Movies Under the Stars a defining Princess feature, and the large poolside screen still works best when you choose a film you actually want to watch rather than treating the screen as background noise every evening.

Eat dinner first, find a comfortable chair before the movie begins, and bring a light layer because open-deck wind can make a warm Caribbean evening feel cooler once you have been sitting still for an hour. Complimentary popcorn is a nice bonus and not a replacement for dinner unless your nutritional strategy has become extremely vacation-specific.

The screen also handles sports and daytime entertainment, so check what is actually playing before deciding that the pool deck is the evening plan. Prefer to watch one movie properly than half-watch three while walking between bars.

Use the multiple pools instead of fighting one chair war

The Caribbean Princess pool layout separates the main Neptune’s Reef and Calypso Reef areas from Terrace Pool, the Lotus Spa Pool, and The Reef family area. Choose by who is swimming and how much activity they want, instead of making everyone use the same deck.

If one deck feels packed, move. Do not spend thirty minutes circling Neptune’s Reef for a chair when another pool, aft seating, Sanctuary, Piazza, Skywalkers, or my balcony can change the whole mood.

Early morning and late afternoon remain the easiest pool windows. Princess Cays and Amber Cove can also create quiet ship time if you return earlier than the majority of passengers.

For families, The Reef adds water play alongside the main pools, with posted rules to check before younger children join in. Adults can compare the included Lotus Spa Pool with The Sanctuary before paying for a reserved retreat.

Princess Cays needs water-shuttle patience, not an overbuilt excursion plan

Princess Cays is Princess’s private Bahamian destination on Eleuthera, and the ship-to-shore process uses water shuttles rather than walking directly down a pier. Build a little buffer into the morning instead of treating the published arrival time like the exact minute my feet will hit sand.

If the beach is the goal, keep the day simple. Swim, find the section that fits your preferred energy level, eat, and enjoy the fact that a private-island day can be complete without purchasing three additional activities.

For guests with mobility needs, check current water-shuttle accessibility before the cruise. Shore access can be more limiting than ship access, and that distinction matters before an excursion or beach day becomes emotionally nonrefundable.

Amber Cove is the port where the pool ashore can compete with the pool onboard

Amber Cove has a large developed port area with pool, shops, bars, and excursion access, which means you do not necessarily need a complicated shore plan to have a full day. Decide whether the priority is Dominican Republic beyond the port or simply an easy resort-style day.

If the port facilities sound good enough, enjoy them and stop pretending a cruise port only counts when a motorcoach is involved. If waterfalls, countryside, beaches, or a more regional excursion are the real reason for getting off, leave the port complex intentionally instead of wandering around first and losing half the day.

Back onboard, you should not schedule Crown Grill five minutes after returning from a full excursion. Shower, reset, and let dinner happen when everyone actually wants to sit down.

Grand Turk is the early-return opportunity you should exploit

When Grand Turk has an early departure, you should pair a manageable shore outing with an unhurried late afternoon aboard. Terrace Pool, a Skywalkers view, or an available Sanctuary session serve different moods once everyone returns.

The cruise-center beach and pool make Grand Turk easy when you want a low-effort shore day. Go farther only when snorkeling, diving, island touring, or another specific experience matters more than convenience.

After sailaway, you should give Terrace Pool a look before immediately getting ready for dinner. The changing light and wake are reasons to stay outside when conditions are pleasant.

Crown Grill is the specialty dinner you should put first

Crown Grill is Caribbean Princess’s classic steak and seafood restaurant, and this is the paid dinner you should choose first for a celebration or one intentionally special meal. The open-kitchen steakhouse format suits the ship and gives you a clear reason to spend extra.

Book it on a sea day or after Nassau rather than after the longest Amber Cove plan. A premium steak dinner deserves people who are awake enough to enjoy it instead of politely chewing while thinking about bed.

Sabatini’s is the Italian alternative when handmade pasta and a longer Italian dinner sound better than steak. Choose between the two by craving rather than by which one is supposedly the more important Princess experience.

Our cruise ship guides can help compare this traditional restaurant-and-lounge lineup with another ship. One specialty dinner is enough for my week unless food is a main reason for traveling.

Planks BBQ and Steamers Seafood are the casual paid dinners people forget exist

Caribbean Princess also uses Planks BBQ and Steamers Seafood as pop-up-style dining experiences around the aft buffet area. Remember these when the group wants something different without turning dinner into Crown Grill-level formality.

Planks makes sense when barbecue and hearty sides sound good, while Steamers is the obvious choice for mussels, clams, fried seafood, and other seafood-heavy comfort food. Check which nights and hours they are operating because pop-up venues can be less predictable than the permanent restaurants.

Current Princess Plus includes four casual meals per voyage, while Premier includes unlimited casual and specialty dining. Apply the casual allowance to a Planks or Steamers evening that appeals, comparing any older booking’s terms before paying separately.

Slice and Salty Dog Grill are the lunch backup that saves sea days

Slice handles poolside pizza, while Salty Dog Grill serves burgers, hot dogs, and street-taco-style options. Use whichever line is better instead of standing behind twenty people because the food I first imagined was a burger.

World Fresh Marketplace gives you more variety when the deck counters are crowded, but the buffet should not become the automatic choice either. Walk, look, and eat where the line and menu make sense that day.

Coffee & Cones and other nearby casual stops make the Lido deck easy to stay on for hours. That convenience is exactly why you should not dismantle a good pool afternoon simply because lunch arrived.

The Sanctuary is the paid quiet space you should price only for a sea day

The Sanctuary is Princess’s adults-only top-deck retreat with upgraded loungers, service, and a calmer atmosphere. On a Caribbean week, you should consider it for one sea day rather than assume a full-cruise commitment is necessary.

The value depends on whether reserved loungers and attendant service matter enough to pay for them. Compare the atmosphere with Terrace Pool, Skywalkers when open, and your own balcony before committing several days of the cruise budget.

If shade, service, and an adult retreat are specifically what you want, book accordingly. If you mostly spend sea days moving between food, trivia, pools, and movies, a reserved lounger can become expensive furniture you rarely occupy.

Reserve Collection is really a dining-convenience upgrade

Reserve Collection Mini-Suites on Caribbean Princess come with premium cabin locations plus Reserve Dining, upgraded bathrobes, a wine setup, and other added benefits. Pay attention to the dining access before the robe.

Reserve Dining gives a dedicated section with expedited seating, which can make a noticeable difference when the group likes the main dining room but hates planning dinner times. That convenience repeats every evening instead of appearing once in a welcome basket.

Reserve Collection does not automatically include Princess Premier, so keep the cabin product and fare package separate in the budget. A premium room category and an inclusive onboard package solve different problems.

If Reserve Dining and extra Mini-Suite space do not matter, you should compare a standard balcony through our cabin guides. The cabin upgrade and Princess Premier are separate purchases, so the useful question is which one changes the way you expect to cruise.

Caribe Deck balconies deserve a serious look if outdoor space matters

Caribbean Princess has balcony categories across several decks, and older Grand-class ships can have meaningful differences in balcony depth, exposure, and privacy. Check the exact room instead of assuming two cabins with the word balcony are interchangeable.

Caribe Deck is especially worth comparing because some premium balcony locations offer more generous outdoor space than a standard balcony elsewhere. Larger is not automatically better if the exposure or location does not fit you, but this is one ship where balcony geometry can matter more than deck prestige.

Dolphin Deck Mini-Suites provide more interior sitting space, while balcony exposure differs from what a category name suggests. Our cabin-location checklist helps compare privacy and neighboring activity before choosing a specific room.

Because the ship is only 952 feet long, you should care less about being perfectly midship than you should on a modern 1,200-foot mega-ship. Noise, balcony design, elevator proximity, and what sits directly above or below are more important to me here.

Compare the package with your actual Caribbean port days

For a Caribbean week, you should compare the package with the time actually spent aboard, especially after beach days at Princess Cays or Grand Turk. Crew appreciation and Wi-Fi may still matter even when a long shore day reduces the drinks or meals I buy onboard.

Wi-Fi and crew appreciation can still create reliable value, while specialty or casual dining benefits matter only if I wanted those meals anyway. A package does not become cheaper because it includes more items I had no intention of buying.

MedallionClass is best when it removes little annoyances

The Princess Medallion handles cabin access, onboard purchases, locating travel companions, and OceanNow-style delivery functions. Set it up before sailing and use it for convenience rather than spend the first sea day learning the app while sitting beside the pool.

OceanNow activation costs $14.99 USD per person per voyage without a qualifying package, while telephone room-service delivery is $5 USD per order. Current Plus and Premier waive both fees, although menu-item charges can remain, so you should separate the delivery benefit from the food itself.

For a group, location sharing can reduce the number of “where are you?” messages. It works best when everyone understands the feature and still agrees on one real meeting point for anything time-sensitive.

Princess Theater is where you should choose one production, not every production

Caribbean Princess has the main Princess Theater plus Club Fusion, Explorers Lounge, Skywalkers, Piazza entertainment, guest performers, and Movies Under the Stars. Look at the daily program and choose the production or entertainer I actually want rather than attend because the theater is the largest room.

Arrive earlier for the show that matters. The theater has good sightlines, but people who want center seats have the same ability to read a schedule as you do.

Club Fusion and Explorers Lounge are often more useful for games, music, trivia, and smaller events. Leave at least one evening open enough that a good band or funny game can keep me in the room instead of forcing a move to another reservation.

Use laundry to keep a longer Caribbean trip simple

For a longer Caribbean Princess trip, self-service laundry helps reduce luggage: washers, dryers, and products are charged, with tokens bought using the Medallion. Fit a small load around a quieter onboard window, leaving Princess Cays transfer time and planned shore outings intact.

Full-suite and Elite sent-out laundry benefits exclude express service, so eligible guests should compare that option before paying for machines. A repeatable pool-and-shore wardrobe is more useful here than packing a different outfit for every casual dinner.

My first-day Caribbean Princess plan

After boarding, you should complete the safety briefing and assembly-station check, connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi for the Princess app, and confirm dining. Compare Terrace Pool, the Lotus Spa Pool, and The Reef before choosing a regular family or adult meeting spot.

Check the balcony’s real shade and privacy before unpacking, then learn the route to Skywalkers and the aft buffet dining area. That gives the first sea day a useful pair of alternatives to the central pool deck.

Before dinner, you should check the next port’s plan and choose one entertainment priority instead of filling the whole week. If the aft pool is quiet, Skywalkers is open, or Movies Under the Stars is showing something you actually want to see, you should use that opportunity instead of saving every good idea for a sea day.

Caribbean Princess works because it is simpler than the giant ships built after it. Use the aft pool and Skywalkers when the center gets busy, International Café whenever hunger arrives at an inconvenient hour, Crown Grill for the one proper splurge, Princess Cays as an easy beach day, and the multiple pool and lounge zones instead of asking one crowded deck to carry the entire vacation.
