Carnival Venezia Tips, Secrets & Things to Know: Practical Advice for a Better Trip
Carnival Venezia gets easier once you find lunch outside Lido, learn the destination elevators, and choose your outdoor spot for that day’s weather.
These are the little decisions to sort out early, so your week feels like a vacation instead of repeatedly joining the wrong line or walking to the wrong end of the ship.
Short version
Find La Strada on Deck 5, learn the elevator panel and aft-dining route, and compare both pools before your first sea day. Price Terrazza for actual retreat time; Manhattan departures need a first-day drinks budget because CHEERS activates at 6 a.m. on Day 2.

Find La Strada Grill before the first sea day
La Strada sits outside on Deck 5 instead of beside the obvious Lido lunch counters. Put it on your first walk around the ship so you’ll remember another included option when everybody is hungry upstairs.
Check its current lunch hours in HUB. It’s a limited-window counter, and finding a good sandwich place after it has closed is much less useful than knowing when to come back.
On a comfortable day, use a promenade table and enjoy lunch outside. If the wind picks up, change plans rather than making the outdoor setting an obligation.
Tomodoro is another included stop worth trying at more than one meal. A breakfast burrito and an Italian-influenced lunch are different reasons to visit, so don’t write it off after one quick look.
Our Venezia dining guide helps you choose between those counters and the paid dinners. Give the smaller included venues a turn before spending extra because the buffet felt repetitive.
Learn the elevator panel when nobody is rushing
Venezia’s destination elevators ask you to choose a floor at the lobby panel, then board the car you’re assigned. Try a simple trip early instead of learning the system while a theater crowd is doing the same thing.
Follow the panel’s instructions for everyone traveling together. If you’re unsure how to account for the group or reach an upper destination, ask before boarding rather than assuming the car will work like a traditional elevator.
Choose the bank that serves the place you’re going. Getting the deck number right doesn’t help much if you arrive at the opposite end and still need a long walk.
For anyone who relies on elevators, leave time between dinner and a show. Cabin location matters too, because the useful room is near the routes you’ll repeat throughout the week.
Use Deck 5 to get to aft dining
Canal Grande is at the aft end, with a service area interrupting the straightforward lower-deck route from Piazza San Marco. Don’t expect to stroll directly through the middle of Deck 3 to reach it.
Cross the ship on Deck 5, then use the aft stairs or elevators for your assigned dining-room entrance. Once you’ve learned that route, the meal feels much less like a hunt for a hidden door.
The Venezia deck plan helps you see the public passages and the separate dining levels. Our Venezia deck guide turns that layout into practical routes.
Use public passages and the correct aft bank. A restaurant, private terrace, or crew area shouldn’t become your improvised shortcut.

Let the weather choose your pool area
The central Lido pool has a retractable roof, which can be a real advantage on a cool or rainy day. Use that shelter when it improves the afternoon rather than deciding before you sail that one pool will always be your favorite.
When you want open air, try Burano aft. Walk through both early in the cruise so switching later is easy.
If the central deck feels busy, compare the surrounding lounging space instead of circling the same few chairs. You may enjoy a seat farther from the pool more than another half hour waiting for the position you first imagined.
For a quieter adult lounging plan, find Serenity before the first busy sea day. You don’t have to spend every outdoor hour beside the main family pool.
Check the Serenity age rule before planning a group retreat
The included Serenity retreat is for guests 21 and older. A group with an 18-, 19-, or 20-year-old needs another place to lounge together.
Serenity is high forward on Deck 15. Try it when the weather is comfortable and adult outdoor time is what you actually want.
Don’t treat the age restriction as a promise that your preferred chair will be available. Arrive with a flexible plan and compare other public spaces if the area is busy.
For mixed-age families, the pools, lounges, and public outdoor areas may make an easier shared base. Keep Serenity as an adult option when the group is happy to split up.
Price Terrazza for the time you’ll spend there
Terrazza Carnevale adds a reserved aft outdoor area with loungers and whirlpools. The smartest reason to pay for access is that you’ll use it often, especially on a trip with several sea days.
Compare the actual cabin choices rather than treating Terrazza as one universal upgrade. An interior with access, a Cabana patio, and an elevated balcony offer very different indoor and outdoor experiences.
The Venezia room descriptions list the benefits, including selected breakfast access in Carnevale Lounge. Ocean Suites also include terrace access for guests ages 12 and older, so make that part of the comparison if you’re considering a suite.
Every occupant of a Terrazza stateroom must be at least 12. If a younger child is sharing your room, choose another category from the start.
A Cabana patio adjoins the shared outdoor setting. Choose it when that easy connection appeals; compare a conventional balcony if secluded outdoor time is your priority.
The retreat has whirlpools rather than its own swimming pool. Budget drinks separately unless your specific package or offer covers the order you’re making.

Reserve the meal you want, not the whole restaurant list
Il Viaggio is the paid dinner that most closely matches Venezia’s Italian theme. Book it when a regional Italian meal sounds like an enjoyable evening in its own right.
If the family is most excited about the teppanyaki chef show, give that limited-seating experience priority instead. For a committed steak lover, Fahrenheit 555 may be the meal worth paying for.
There’s no need to reserve all three before you know what kind of week you want. Keep evenings free for music and shows if those are more appealing than several long dinners.
Check the current cover, service charge, supplements, and cancellation terms before paying. That makes the comparison fairer than looking only at the first price beside the restaurant name.
New York CHEERS needs a separate sailaway budget
For departures from New York, Carnival’s CHEERS package terms start activation at 6 a.m. on the second day. First-day drinks are charged individually even when you’ve prepaid the package.
If your selected Venezia sailing leaves Manhattan, allow for those first-day orders before you head to a bar. Check the account after the first purchases so you understand what has been billed.
Keep this advice tied to the departure port. Venezia also sails from Florida, so don’t apply a New York embarkation rule to every cruise on the ship.
The same care helps with flights, hotels, and transfers. Use the actual port listed on your booking instead of assuming the ship always leaves from the city mentioned in an older guide.

Pack activity shoes before you pack another dressy outfit
If the ropes course is on your list, bring closed-toe athletic sneakers and suitable workout clothing. Sandals aren’t a substitute just because they are comfortable for walking around the deck.
Carnival’s ropes-course rules require guests to be 52–77 inches tall and no more than 300 pounds. Glasses need a securing strap or must be removed.
Check the posted rules for each waterslide separately. The ropes-course requirements don’t tell you whether a child qualifies for a particular WaterWorks attraction.
Try outdoor activities earlier in the cruise when the weather and opening hours allow. If something closes because of conditions, you’ll have another opportunity instead of discovering on the last day that it was your only chance.
Put comedy and youth introductions early in the week
If comedy appeals, try a set early and return when you enjoy the performer. Arrive before showtime when the group wants seats together, and read the actual family or adult content label.
Choose a theater production for its current music and theme. You don’t need to attend every show just because it’s in the largest room.
For families, visit Camp Ocean on Deck 11 and the teen spaces forward on Deck 3 before the first evening gets busy. Children interested in meeting friends benefit from finding the rooms early rather than waiting until halfway through the trip.
Our Venezia activities guide helps choose the priorities. Let a good lounge performer or a youth session your child loves earn a repeat visit.
Pick an alternate evening route if casino smoke bothers you
The main casino is on Deck 4, and it doesn’t need to become part of every trip between venues. If you’re sensitive to smoke, learn another public route before you’re crossing during a busy evening.
Use the right elevator bank and a different public deck when that gives you a more comfortable walk. Going a little farther is often preferable to repeating a route you dislike.
For evening drinks, choose Amari, Frizzante, or another lounge by the atmosphere you want. There’s no reason to stop at the casino simply because it’s on the path you first learned.

Use embarkation day to solve the recurring little problems
Complete the required arrival steps, connect to HUB, and choose lunch from the places actually open. Then find your dining-room route, both pools, and the lounge you’re most interested in trying.
If you have Terrazza access, locate the retreat and breakfast arrangements. If you’re traveling with children, learn the youth-room routes and confirm when registration or introductions happen.
Finish by choosing one evening priority instead of filling the whole week. Once the useful routes and benefits are familiar, you can spend much more of the cruise doing what sounds good that day.
How this guide was researched
The routes and venue locations were checked against the Venezia deck plan, and accommodation benefits against Carnival’s ship information. New York CHEERS activation, Serenity eligibility, and ropes-course requirements were checked against the linked Carnival policies.
