Celebrity Xcel Deck-by-Deck Guide: Best Decks and Routes

Celebrity Xcel has so many beautiful spaces that it is easy to spend your first day taking the long way around.

Here is how to choose a comfortable cabin location and find the simplest routes to the places you will use most.

Short version

  • Best all-around cabin decks: Decks 8 and 9 give you cabin-heavy decks above and below without putting you too far from either the restaurants or pools.
  • Best for motion sensitivity: Choose a lower, midship cabin on Deck 7 or 8 rather than a high room near the bow or stern.
  • Best for dining and nightlife: Deck 7 keeps you close to the action on Decks 3 through 6 while adding a little separation from the busiest venues.
  • Best for pools and the spa: Decks 11 and 12 shorten the trip to Deck 14, but the exact space above your room matters.
  • Most important navigation tip: The Rooftop Garden, Bora, Sunset Bar, and Fitness Center are on Deck 15, not Deck 14.

Celebrity Xcel layout at a glance

Most of the places you will visit after dinner sit on Decks 3, 4, and 5. The Theatre occupies the forward end of all three decks, while Grand Plaza, the restaurants, casino, shops, and bars fill the middle and aft portions.

The Bazaar is a multilevel destination at the aft end of Decks 4 through 6. Mosaic is on Deck 4, the main Bazaar and Spice are on Deck 5, and the upper Bazaar space reaches Deck 6.

Decks 7 through 12 are dominated by cabins, which makes the middle of this stack the easiest place to begin a quiet-room search. Deck 14 holds the spa, Solarium, Pool Club, and Oceanview Café, while Deck 15 holds the Fitness Center, Rooftop Garden, Bora, and Sunset Bar.

Keep the official deck plan open while comparing cabin numbers. It is much easier to spot what is directly above, below, and across the hall when you view two neighboring decks together.

Deck 2: Destination Gateway and medical care

Deck 2 is not a cabin deck, but you may use it more than expected on port days. It contains Destination Gateway, a Magic Carpet landing position, The Basement teen space, and the Medical Facility.

Follow the onboard announcement when leaving the ship because the active gangway can change. If you need step-free boarding or extra assistance, ask the crew which elevator and exit will be used before the busiest departure period begins.

Deck 3: Grand Plaza, dining, and lower Theatre

Deck 3 combines the lower Theatre with a large cabin section, Camp at Sea, Guest Relations, the Concierge Lounge, Grand Plaza, Martini Bar, Normandie, and Tuscan. This deck can feel like two different worlds depending on whether you are near the forward Theatre or the aft restaurants.

Use the forward elevators for The Theatre and Camp at Sea, then use the more central bank for Grand Plaza, Guest Relations, and dinner. Cabins closest to the Theatre, atrium, restaurants, or elevator lobbies deserve a more careful look if early nights matter.

Deck 4: restaurants, casino, and entertainment

Deck 4 is one of Celebrity Xcel’s busiest indoor decks. You will find the upper Theatre, The Club, Grand Plaza, Café al Bacio, Craft Social, the casino, shops, Le Grand Bistro, Le Voyage, Cosmopolitan, Cyprus, and Mosaic here.

Normandie and Tuscan are one deck below, so confirm the restaurant name before heading to dinner. For The Theatre and The Club, approach from the forward elevators; for Grand Plaza, Café al Bacio, and most dining, the central elevators save unnecessary backtracking.

Mosaic sits at the aft end as part of The Bazaar experience rather than the four-main-restaurant system. The Xcel dining guide explains which restaurants are included, which cost extra, and what is worth reserving.

Deck 5: The Bazaar, bars, and specialty dining

Deck 5 is the heart of Celebrity Xcel’s evening scene. It includes the upper Theatre, Attic at The Club, Grand Plaza, Fine Cut Steakhouse, Raw on 5, World Class Bar, Celebrity Flagship, the Art Gallery, the main Bazaar level, Spice, and a Magic Carpet landing.

Walk aft when you want The Bazaar or Spice, and stay forward for The Theatre and Attic. The distance between those ends is longer than it looks, so taking the elevator closest to your destination makes a noticeable difference.

The Bazaar has different events, food, and activities throughout a sailing, so look at the daily schedule instead of assuming one visit covers it. Browse The Bazaar before your cruise if this is one of the spaces you are most excited to experience.

Deck 6: cabins and the upper Bazaar

Deck 6 is mostly cabins, but it is not a completely residential deck. The upper portion of The Bazaar occupies the aft end, with Market at The Bazaar connected to the levels below.

The small aft cabin cluster numbered 6301 through 6306 sits closest to The Bazaar. Those rooms may be wonderfully convenient for anyone who loves the venue, but quieter sleepers should weigh that access against nearby activity and foot traffic.

Deck 6 also contains Infinite Veranda rooms, panoramic ocean-view rooms, and Magic Carpet Sky Suites. The Magic Carpet travels along the starboard side, so compare the exact room position if an open view or maximum privacy is a priority.

Deck 7: convenient without being too close

Deck 7 is primarily residential and gives you a useful buffer above the restaurants and entertainment decks. It is a smart choice for travelers who expect to spend evenings around Grand Plaza or The Bazaar but do not want to sleep directly above them.

A midship cabin also keeps the walk reasonably balanced between dinner below and the pools above. Stay a few doors away from elevator lobbies, connecting cabins, and obvious service areas when quiet matters more than absolute convenience.

Deck 8: one of the best cabin decks

Deck 8 is one of the safest starting points for a quiet cabin search because most rooms have other cabins above and below. It also sits low enough to feel more comfortable than the highest decks when the sea is moving.

Midship rooms minimize the average walking distance and usually feel steadier than cabins at either end. On the starboard side, pay attention to the Magic Carpet structure and nearby sightlines before choosing solely by cabin category.

Deck 9: the best all-around balance

Deck 9 offers perhaps the easiest compromise between quiet, motion, and access. It is surrounded largely by cabins while remaining roughly between the lower dining decks and the upper pool area.

This is a particularly good deck for first-time Celebrity cruisers who do not yet know where they will spend most of the day. Choose midship for shorter average walks, or move forward or aft only when a favorite venue makes that trade worthwhile.

Deck 10: quiet cabins with easier pool access

Deck 10 remains comfortably inside the cabin stack, but it trims several flights from the trip to Deck 14. That makes it appealing for active travelers who want quiet surroundings without choosing a room directly beneath the pool deck.

Motion-sensitive guests should still favor the middle of the ship rather than a high cabin at the bow or stern. Compare connecting-room symbols and elevator proximity because those details often matter more than moving one deck up or down.

Deck 11: close to the upper decks

Deck 11 is another mostly residential level, with the bridge occupying the forward end. You are closer to the spa, pool, Rooftop Garden, and upper Retreat spaces, but the higher position can make movement more noticeable.

Midship works best for most travelers on this level. Rooms far forward are convenient for the spa and Fitness Center elevators, while aft rooms shorten the trip to Oceanview Café, Bora, Rooftop Garden, and Sunset Bar.

Deck 12: convenient but check overhead

Deck 12 holds a mix of cabins and suites directly beneath Deck 14 because Celebrity Xcel does not use the number 13. This is the most convenient cabin deck for frequent trips to the spa, Solarium, Pool Club, and Oceanview Café.

The tradeoff is what sits above your ceiling. Forward rooms can fall beneath spa areas, midship rooms beneath the pool zone, and aft rooms beneath Oceanview Café and its supporting spaces, so match the exact cabin to Deck 14 before booking.

Use the Xcel cabins to avoid and best Xcel cabins guides for room-number advice rather than rejecting the entire deck.

Why Celebrity Xcel skips Deck 13

The elevator buttons move directly from Deck 12 to Deck 14. Nothing is physically missing between them, and Deck 12 sits immediately below the venues shown on Deck 14.

Use both the deck number and venue when choosing a meeting place during the first day. Saying “Deck 14 by the Solarium” is much clearer than telling someone to go one deck above Deck 12.

Deck 14: spa, Solarium, Pool Club, and buffet

Deck 14 is Celebrity Xcel’s main pool and wellness deck. It contains The Spa, SEA Thermal Suite, Hydra Room, Vitamin D Deck, Solarium, Celebrity Pool Club, pool bars, Mast Grill, Oceanview Café, Il Secondo Bacio, and a Magic Carpet landing.

Head forward for The Spa, SEA Thermal Suite, Vitamin D Deck, and Solarium. Stay around the middle for Pool Club and Mast Grill, then continue aft for Oceanview Café.

The Fitness Center, Rooftop Garden, Bora, and Sunset Bar are one deck higher on Deck 15. Explore the spa and activities before choosing a cabin mainly for quick access to one of these spaces.

Deck 15: Fitness Center, Rooftop Garden, Bora, and Sunset Bar

Deck 15 has two very different personalities. The forward portion contains the Fitness Center, Motion Studios, The Retreat Lounge, Edge Villas, and a small group of cabins, while the aft portion contains the Rooftop Garden, Bora, Sunset Bar, and the jogging track.

Use the forward elevators for workouts and eligible Retreat spaces. For Bora, Rooftop Garden, and Sunset Bar, choose the elevator bank closest to the aft end so you do not begin with a long outdoor walk.

This is one of the biggest navigation corrections to remember because those aft venues are not on the same level as Pool Club. The Xcel entertainment guide can help you decide which areas deserve the most time.

Deck 16: Luminae, Edge Villas, and Retreat space

Deck 16 contains Luminae at The Retreat, the upper levels of the two-story Edge Villas, Retreat Sundeck space, a hot tub, part of the jogging track, and a Magic Carpet position. Much of the deck is connected to suite accommodations or Retreat benefits.

Luminae and the private sundeck are not general public shortcuts. Follow the marked public route for the jogging track or Magic Carpet rather than assuming every forward passage is open to all guests.

Deck 17: Retreat Sundeck, pool, and bar

Deck 17 is the highest Retreat level, with The Retreat Sundeck, Retreat Pool, Retreat Bar, hot tubs, loungers, and outdoor seating. This is a private destination for eligible suite guests, not a general sun deck or a useful route across the ship.

Wind and weather can affect any exposed top deck, but the main planning issue here is access. If you are not staying in The Retreat, build your upper-deck routine around Decks 14 and 15 instead.

The easiest Celebrity Xcel routes

  • Grand Plaza and dinner: Use the central elevators for Grand Plaza and the restaurant cluster across Decks 3 and 4.
  • The Theatre and The Club: Use the forward elevators and stay toward the bow instead of crossing a busy dining deck.
  • The Bazaar: Head aft on Deck 5 for the main level, then use its connected levels for Mosaic, Spice, and Market at The Bazaar.
  • Pools and the spa: Go to Deck 14, then move forward for wellness spaces, midship for Pool Club, or aft for Oceanview Café.
  • Rooftop Garden and Bora: Go to Deck 15 and approach from the aft side.
  • The Retreat: Eligible suite guests will use the forward upper decks, with the lounge on Deck 15, Luminae and sundeck space on Deck 16, and the pool and bar on Deck 17.

How to choose your cabin deck

Choose Deck 8 or 9 for the best all-around balance, then narrow the search by ship position. Midship suits most motion-sensitive travelers, while a room closer to the bow or stern can be worthwhile when it consistently shortens the walk to your favorite venues.

Deck 7 is especially convenient for dining and nightlife, while Decks 10 and 11 make the upper outdoor areas easier to reach. Deck 12 offers the shortest trip to Deck 14 but demands the closest look at what is directly overhead.

Also review connecting doors, elevator lobbies, service spaces, and the starboard Magic Carpet track. Celebrity’s room descriptions help explain the categories, but the exact position determines whether a particular room suits you.

How this guide was researched: This guide was checked against the cruise line’s current ship pages, deck plans, venue listings, and published policies. Details can change by sailing, so confirm booking-sensitive prices, hours, access rules, and cabin assignments before payment.

Final recommendation

Start with a midship cabin on Deck 8 or 9 unless one particular destination matters more than everything else. Move down to Deck 7 for easier dinners and entertainment, or up to Deck 10 or 11 for faster access to pools, the spa, Rooftop Garden, and Sunset Bar.

Once your deck is chosen, compare the room above, below, beside, and across the hall before paying. Then read the Xcel pros and cons and Xcel tips guide to finish planning the rest of the ship.
